THIS IS VERY INTERESTING. I had no idea folks had big turtles like that for family pets. The eastern Indian tribes revered the turtle ! Those you have Lee are really pretty also. MY pal up in the U.P. has black turtles in his pond and they pay NO attention to our shooting off all the Lily pads around 'em. What FUN !!

Thanks guys. Flash and Lucky are Eastern Box turtles. I've had Lucky for 7 years and Flash for 2. It's not uncommon for EBTs to live to 80 years old in captivity (assuming captivity is an outdoor, natural enclosure). They're best left in the wild but these two found me. Both were in the middle of the road and I swirved to miss them. The area was being bulldozed for new homes so their chances were slim. Displacement seemed as good a reason as any to give them a new home. BTW, they look larger in these pictures than reality. Lucky is full grown and his shell front-to-back is about 6". -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

"The eastern Indian tribes revered the turtle" I developed a sincere case of reverence for the Alligator Snapping Turtle when I saw one.. Tarzan would call them "Bad Juju"

Just a couple of observations for Lee. First, youre lucky. My parrots dont hibernate. Second, you really need to get out more.... Fermin just doesn't appreciate a good turtle.

Picture this at 250 pounds swimming around in your lakes and rivers looking for something to eat. Unlike Lee's Turtles, that thing really looks dangerous!

I love it Dmize. That just became my screen-saver for the next week. Cary - ya, Flash is pretty quick for a box turtle. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Only thing I miss about living in the south were my two leopard tortoises.
My current environment isn't the most hospitable for turtles.

Are they natives to your area. We have Three-toed and Ornate box turtles here in Missouri. And of course each spring the Snappers make their moves.... Bob
