So, the general consensus is to Maxi Throat these beasts?

Stan, not sure I would say it is a consensus. You will note that Reeder put a new barrel on his customers 327 SS and you can bet it had a maxi throat. Harton told me it would result lower chamber pressure. I think it would ease the transition from the cylinder into the forcing cone and help any misalignment that might be present. There are no downsides here.
While my barrel is off the gun might as well recrown it as well. Just my 2 cents.

I'm thinking I'll send a set out to Gary for round butting, grip fitting and action jobs. A forcing cone and crown treatment may end up on the list too.

Has it occurred to you to shoot them first Stan?? You might have a tack driver or two!!

Plan to shoot them first? What a novel concept! Actually no.. Knowing that they require some ergonomic enhancements and action jobs to live at my house no matter how they shoot, the addition of muzzle and forcing cone treatments would be an attempt to conserve a few bucks in shipping costs and time.

Mild Bradford load? Help please Who knows what Bill is talking about there....? On the Taylor throating for the 327 Federal Single Sevens.... I drove up to see Harton and we looked at 3 Single Sevens. We believe them to be more than adequately throated and left them alone. The spitting we are seeing may just be unburned powder. H110 may just be too slow. Only more testing will tell.

Mild Bradford load? Help please 5.5gr of W231 and a 255gr cast slug deep seated in 44 mag brass makes the gun fun to shoot and appears to be pretty danger accurate. Probably not making 800 fps in a 3" barrel... Should have read Bradshaw, I don't know what I was thinking when I typed it.

Note that the barrels on the FA97 and the Harton Custom Douglas gave far higher velocities across the board.
Be careful and work up to these loads.
You guys might want to pester Hoover a bit. He is running concurrent tests with pretty much all the same components BUT his bullets are powder coated. Perhaps he will share his results. I for one am impressed with his work!!

First group out of my newest 327 S7 after I got it on the target anyway. Rays shot so good I decided I needed one. Hauled mine and Rays up to Hartons and did the triggers too. As you guys can see, I dont have a new front sight on it yet. I am waiting along with all the rest of you!!! Still, this is a sweet little unit. Perhaps a alloy frame to make it even lighter....

After consulting with fellow 327 Teammate Tank Hoover I ventured out yesterday to try and get some shooting done and most especially with 2 goals in mind: 1. Discover what would Blue Dot powder have to offer us in the 327 and 2. See what would be the optimum load for the Miha 115 GCHP. To that end, I set up my Dillon so that I could swap powder measures at the range between Blue Dot and H110. I took some Miha 115 GCHPs and some 135 Sledgehammers. I also took some Corder 125s but didnt get to them before I ran out of time. I had already waited nearly a week for it to quit raining and got to splash around in the muddy mush some and splash some king sized skeeters into mush. I need to say that one needs to be careful with Blue Dot. Work up with all due caution. I started with the 115 Miha GCHP loaded to 1.505" oal on 7.5 grains of Blue Dot and was quite surprised to see the initial velocity at 1347 fps. I worked up to 1525 fps with the Miha 115 and Blue Dot. With the Sledgehammer 135 I worked up to 1350 fps. I do not have an exact powder charges at this time as I was loading by volume. I can say that my cases were extracting normally and primers (CCI 550) looked fine. I would also say that it appears that either my S7 7.5" is FASTER than Tank Hoovers, or his painted bullets are impacting his velocity. It is just hard to say without a side by side comparison. I have invited Tank down here to S. Texas non stop but he just cant seem to get a kitchen pass. Accuracy on the other hand with Blue Dot seemed to be a bit erratic. I was getting some pretty good flyers. Not really sure why, but I would definitely say that Blue Dot does have some potential to be further explored. My current thinking is that I was just pushing the bullet too hard. More to follow. The other load I worked with was 13.0 H110 on a CCI 550 primer with the 115 Miha GCHP. Velocity was 1488 fps and accuracy was looking good except for by the time I shot the group shown below I had been shooting for several hours and was getting tired. I might also mention that while I have a brand new bag of 327 Federal brass I am still shooting the same lot I have originally started with. There are some 300-350 cases and I have shot these over and over for a good while and they are still holding up fine.

That 'Blue Dot' load sounds interesting. I picked up some awhile back to play with in my .45 acp's with a 200gr Miha hp. May have to give it a try after I get back from the CSA get together.

IME, Blue Dot settles down with standard primers. I have gotten spikes at lower than usual charges when using magnum primers. Then again, sometimes it just doesn't like a cartidge. I never did get anything good out of it in 38 Super or 9x23 Winchester, but it ran real well in 45 Super. Thanks for your trail blazing with the 327.

2Dogs, Tank,Thanks for all the good reports on your test. This is one of the best reads along with the Bradshaw articles I've read in a long time. 2Dogs, I'm getting closer to rebarreling my 327 with a Douglas barrel.
