I have a super accurate rack grade Armalite M15 (A2, not match grade) that I got in 2002 during the Clinton AWB period and thus has a "muzzle check" on it that makes the thing a little noisy but also cuts recoil to near .22 mag in feel. Today I tried some WC846 surplus a range buddy gave me some time ago. I figured if it grouped 2MOA or so I would be happy, knowing this gun will shoot half MOA with its preferred load of 26grs Varget and 60gr V Max bullets. Despite feeling not at all at home behind this gun due to shooting my .405 Win and bolt guns and my PSL for so long and having trouble with a too light trigger I managed to shoot 23-25 grs by half grain increments, (using 55 gr V Max), 4 shot groups, into just over, to just under an inch! I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. 23.5 and 24.5 both gave under an inch. I dont have the target to brag about as the local range hangs and pulls all targets on their schedule. Also found that some "blue box" Czech 7.62x54R ball ammo that is reputed to be more accurate than std ball in a PSL was not so much. In fact my Bulgy ball shot better than the more expensive Czech stuff. My Homemade version of Remingtons M40 Marine rifle that I made before Remingtons re-issue gun a few years ago shot its favorite load well today, my boy shot it. 43.5grs of R-15 behind the 175gr Sierra MK is outstanding. I wrote this gun up in Small Arms Review some time back. If you want to read it you can google U.S. Marine Corps M40 Rifle by Scott Stoppelman (me) and it will come up to read on PDF, at least it used to. (Small Arms Review, Vol.6 No.1 - October 2002.) A bit long winded here but a good range day.
