Okay all, I finally decided to purchase a Used Good Condition Ruger Blackhawk 3 Screw SA .30 Carbine Revolver with 7 1/2 " barrel at my local Gun Shop.
My Question is now, what should I do with it?
For some background, I have 2 Ruger Single Sixes in 32 H & R Magnum in 4 5/8" and 5 1/2" barrels.
I also have a Ruger Buckeye Special Blackhawk in .327 Federal Magnum (rechambered from 32 H & R Magnum) and .32-20 Winchester in a 6 1/2" Barrel.
I also have a Colt SAA 32-30 WCF with a 4 3/4" barrel.
I do have more than my share of .357's, .44's & .45's so I have those calibers covered fairly well.
My question is what to do with this .30 Carbine Ruger? I am sure some of you have some good ideas.... I am open to hearing all of them...... Thank you in advance for any ideas that you have......

Loping it off at 4 5/8 like this 30 Carbine is a good start

I agree with whitworth. This is a fine revolver as is. It serves the same purpose as the various versions of 32 magnums and is easy to load, find brass for, etc. I have enoyed the two I have a lot over the years.

Do not lope off the barrel. That 7.5" will issue a huge fireball as is. Have new one and older one. Both really shoot and I don't mean 6" groups at 50 yds. These will print 3" groups all day using a CB and a dose of H110 or W296. Very cool pistols and deadly on coyotes, small deer and everything below.

There's always Gary Reeder.... don't know anything about it, but this round sounds interesting:
"This is our 300 GNR. This one is simply a shortened 30-30 and intended for revolver use. We took the old 30 Herrett and shortened it 1/10 of an inch and made the case a bit straighter and the shoulder a bit sharper. This one will put a 110 gr. JHP out of a 7 inch barrel at 2200. No set back problems with this one either. Can be rechambered from a 30 Carbine Ruger."

I'll second the idea of converting it to a shortened Herrett. The 30 Streaker may be a nice option and dates back to the mid-1970's (Reeder later renamed it the 300 GNR). As noted, it'll routinely push 110's to 2,000+ fps. Here's one we built back in 1993 using an 8.5" piece of Douglas barrel. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

What's wrong with leaving it a .30 Carbine??

Nothing, except they generate a hell of a lot of noise for 1,500 fps. The 30 Streaker, or 300 GNR, isn't that much louder and adds another 600+ fps. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

The Reeder option brings reloading dies and data with it...

I'm with Whitworth - leave it a 30 Carbine and commence to wearin' it out! At least give it a try before you convert it to something, you might love it like it is, as I do. I was hooked the first time I ever shot a 30 Carbine Blackhawk - FAST, relatively cheap to shoot, and trajectory like a banjer string! Loud? Well, yeah, but that's why I wear muffs.
The first one I shot was Jeff's, at the Shootist Holiday some years ago - I had been shooting 44s and 45s at rocks out beyond 300 yards, seemed like I had to aim 10 feet over and had time to have a smoke before I saw the puff of dust that told me how far I'd missed. When Jeff put that 30 Carbine into my hands, I started having some REAL fun! At least, once I got used to how quickly the bullet arrived on target (and I mean ON target!), and once I figured out that I didn't have to hold-over the whole front sight. I got one for myself soon as I got home, and that thing is a blast to shoot!
Give it a try - I love customs, but there's nothing wrong with a stock sixgun that will SHOOT.

As said they are LOUD! A line packer I worked with in Idaho in the '70s carried one on horseback. He said it "scared the hell out of the bears"! I dont doubt that.

Find another 30 Carbine cylinder and you could have both! I've got Gary building me an 8 shot dual cylinder 32-20/327 custom with a .308 barrel. I still won't have a carbine BH. Carbine ammo isn't as cheap as you old guys remember it being way back when...

A convertible with one cylinder being a .300GNR sounds cool to me. Commence to blasting yonder critters and rocks with it.
