This is great news as I could not bring myself to reline the barrel on my '73 and ruin a good ole rifle just to make it shoot better. I would buy one of the new ones in a second chambered in 44-40 0r 38-40. I would think the steel would be for modern pressures or they would be marked up the full length to stave off all the law suits that would surely come about with burst barrels. It isn't the steel that is the weak link as much as it is the toggle link action. I am not sure of the durability of the old rifles since I doubt most were shot enough to amount to anything. Seems like very few people back then had the money to buy that much ammo.

It is not the pressure it is the bolt thrust that the 73 can't handle . My 73 is a factory full race , short stroke , hand checkered Beretta .

Ouch!
I got to hold and handle both blued and case colored rifles at the NRA Convention on Friday. I'm glad I ordered the blue one. I'm too spoiled by Turnbulls case coloring to go for the case colored gun being offered by Winchester. The fit and real was fantastic on both rifles....but I favored the blue...now to get one! My buddy ordered one after seeing the blued one. No safety!

Thanks for posting the auction. I don't think I'm willing to pay $300 over MSRP, but maybe these things are starting to be delivered now.
