I haven't run across the 1873 but did land a new Model 71. It should arrive next week so I'll be sure to post pictures. If it's anything close to my Browning 71 I'm sure I'll be pleased. I've been shooting 348 for 20+ years and am glad to see these re-issues. They give this generation a chance to shoot the classics and prompt additional brass and bullet production. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

The .348 M71 was one of my dads favorites, he owned a bunch of them over the years and used them to take a couple deer and elk. The 71 and the 64 are about the best looking Winchesters ever, though I like the look of the 1895 about as well. I didnt know Win was coming out with the '73 though. Interesting.

I've heard they will chamber them for 45 colt, 44-40, and 44 mag at a later time. Only rumor, and my dealers haven't even heard of them yet.

Remember fellas these are black powder era lever gun designs. Exactly why the cals I list would be perfect. I cant see how they would chamber the magnum unless they redesigned the whole gun.

Uberti cataloged a 73 chambered for the .44 Mag.. Don't know how many may have been made or sold.. The Model 73, made of modern materials, is stronger than most people believe. FWIW, thousands of Uberti 73s were made up in .357 Mag., and have given decades of faithful service..

This is great news as I could not bring myself to reline the barrel on my '73 and ruin a good ole rifle just to make it shoot better. I would buy one of the new ones in a second chambered in 44-40 0r 38-40. I would think the steel would be for modern pressures or they would be marked up the full length to stave off all the law suits that would surely come about with burst barrels.

Yeah, I'm not crazy about .357. There are rumors that maybe 44-40 or 38-40 are in the works, but I can't confirm it.

Well, I ordered one from the local gun shop this week. I have no idea if I will actually receive it....but if I do....it will be a shooter!
I am not a CAS kinda guy and have no need for the old calibers. I reload and shoot a bunch of .38 Specials and .357 Magnums though and me thinks this is going to be a great rifle for fun out back.
The only 1873 I have ever shot is one of my fathers. It's a .22 Short! A BIG recoiler!
This past summer a buddy brought a bunch from his work to come shoot. His boss and some coworkers. It was great fun. Most spoke broken English (he works for an international company based in Germany). We shot all kinds of stuff...mostly .22s and .38s...lots of fun.
When we were packing up I pulled out my 9422 (for some reason I'd not drug it out to shoot earlier in the day)
To my surprise and in nearly perfect unison, 8-9 Germans exclaimed "Ahhh da Vinchestrer"!!
Well, needless to say, we spent another hour or so ringing out the old 9422. It was the hit of the afternoon!
If I end up owning one of these 1873 repros....I expect great cries of joy next time we have German Day at the range.
I guess we are not the only ones who love old westerns with lots of "Vinchesters"

I haven't seen one, but they're almost certainly made by Miroku.

My dealer didn't sound too confident that he'd ever get one.
