E-mail sent, I would take 1000 pieces of 414. Great article thank you. Currently shoot the 357,375 and 445 Supermags but have a strong itch for the 414 that needs to be scratched.

I have been using 14.5 grains of Longshot with a Fed 210 M primer and an LBT 445 WFN-GC which ran 1140 fps over the chrono with a 7.5" barrel. I have also loaded 11.8 grains of Titegroup which should run close to the same speed but haven't chrono'ed it yet. Also tried 24 grains of H4227 which ran in the 1100 range (don't have my data in front of me) but was happier with Longshot. Great cartridge, good luck with your new FA.

I always loved reading Skeeter Skelton and was certainly influenced by his choice of favorite firearms. Finally had a 5" S&W Model 27 converted to 44 Special as a tribute gun and of course had to add a pair of Roper style grips. The old Shooting Times with Skeeter, Rick Jamison, Bob Milek,et al was always something to look forward to.

I have several Freedom Arms including a 475 and 500 with the TSOB base and 3-4 Weigand scope rings and have been very happy with the combination. Very secure, holds zero and have noticed no change with temperature. I also agree the TSOB gives you some flexability with scope position. As for scopes I have used 4x Leupolds for all including the 500 with complete satisfaction. For hunting, target shooting and general plinking the 4x for me is a good compromise of magnification, field of view and "shake"

I love the look of the color case hardened frames on many of the custom handguns shown on this site. I was curious though how durable is it? Does it hold up well on a gun that get a lot of use? Thanks.

I have used 15 grains of Hs-6 with a 390 LBT WFN-GC and have been very happy with it. Runs around 1150 fps. I have also seen 9 grains WW-231 recommended with a 400 grain bullet for about 950 fps but have not personally tried it.

Living in NJ the only thing I carry is the hope that I don't run into a tight situation until I can get the hell out of here.

I have a Freedom Arms 500 Wy Express and have been very happy with it. The revolver is extremely accurate and i can shot loads from 850 fps to well beyond my recoil tolerance. I've settled on a 435 LBT WFN at 1150 fps and shot thru a cow elk this fall and found the bullet buried in the dirt behind it. The Freedom Arms are incredibly well made and I have always found the company a pleasure to deal with. That said a custom Ruger can be a real work of art and it comes down to a matter of personal preference. If you plan on using a scope I'd lean towards the Freedom Arms. If you intend to use iron sights its a toss up and i don't think you can go wrong with either.

Pioneering Handgun Hunting: by Alfred J Goerg is a worthy addition though a bit tough to find.

Cor, the only problem with a nap was the temperature was about 9 degrees with a 10-15 mph wind. I was out there 10 days and the temperature ranged from a high of 63 to a low of 13 below. One morning it was 44 degrees in Lewistown and we drove about 30 miles up to the Missouri River where it was 10 degrees.

Just returned from eastern Montana and was successful getting my first elk. I had a cow tag and decided to use a Freedom Arms 500 WY Express loaded with the LBT WFN 435-GC over 14.5 of Longshot. Velocity over the chrono was running 1140 fps. I had a self imposed limit of 100 yards and managed to get a shot at 88 yards. First shot hit her behind the shoulder and she walked off about 40 yards and fell over. My friend was above and behind me and thought I missed as he saw the bullet hit the dirt behind her. We recovered the bullet from the dirt behind the elk and other than the rifling it looked like new. I shot from the draw on the right side of the photo and the elk was near the closest pine tree on the left side of the photo.
