Friends all, I've no experience with powder coating. However, Tank Hoover has convinced me to try some, so I'll have experience in the near future. My biggest problems with powder coating is shooting a game animal with a pink bullet. Must be just me....
As Lee Martin said, I'd love to see what the same bullet would do without the PC and lubed traditionally.
This is a simple solution to see if the PC was the cause. Then Bill will know where to start. PC, Powder or alloy.
The times I've seen this level of leading in revolvers is due to two primary reasons. Bad gun, or bad powder/bullet combinations. There are other times leading occurs with other problems, we've all been there. Eliminate the easy variable, and shoot the bullets with traditional, good quality lube. See if it occurs again.

Creeker, Great shootin! That is indeed a great bullet. It is a great SWC/Keith style design. As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, the 280 grain area weight is my preferred weight for the standard Colt loads. All the best

Hornady vol X has 21.7 as a max load with the 300 Xtp. However there is no mention of the maximum pressure for said load. Sierra states with their 300 grain the the loads are at 30K psi maximum 23.6 grains John Linebaugh states 23.0 of H110 and a 310 cast is 32 K psi
As stated above by others, your Ruger large frame Vaquero is capable of handling these loads safely. I personally have used loads with slightly larger charge weights of powder with no ill effects nor the minute signs of excess pressures. Only a good reliable working load for the large frame Ruger guns.
Perhaps this will ease your mind

Anybody try to shoot this bullet in a .45AR? It's a little bigger than i want but that reduced nose diameter would solve some problems for me. Look at the 45-261P for the auto rim

Yes it is the 121C
There is now a 130 for the 32/327. There are two crimp positions in the 130. Unfortunately I couldn’t get the oak to match with it when using the 32 and327 cases as the cylinder in the 32 H&R in the Single Six is shorter than the 327’s. Though it may have been possible, there is enough variations in guns that it may have worked in one and not another. I therefore kept with a length that would allow the judicious hand loader to utilize it to is reliable potential.
There is also a 100 grain and an 85. These will be useful traditional weights for the 32 S&W and H&R

There are two ‘cats on the 5.7 that I know of One is a .204 and the other a .172
I have a 17 VHA or now termed JAV by the co-designer
It is a 4.6x30 necked from .183 down to .172. It is a simple forming task. Cases are of good quality. As for efficiency, it is VERY good! 8.3 grains of Lil-gun runs a 20 grain v Max at nearly 3400 FPS in a 16” barrel, 3550 plus in a 21” and upwards to 3700 in a 28”
This is my first tiny bore gun and I’ve not been disappointed. The fun factor is off the charts. My friend Mic has one in a Savage and used it a lot on prairie dogs. His favorite memory was of two in a row at 518 and 519 yards with the little round

4 for the 32 H&R/ 327 fed 2 for the 41 mag with the 270 to be added 3 for the 44 mag ( one of my favorites is the 280 grain SAA/Keith type) 2 for the 500 JRH 1for the 50 Spl/510 GNR/500 Linebaugh
The 401’s will be added soon as well as a fuller lineup in the other calibers

Yes folks I’m still here!
Kayla and I have just moved, so things are in a bit of disarray. Although the last couple years have been as well leading up to our relocation
I still have some molds for those who want them.
Lee, Accurate Molds will be adding the 230 here soon as well as the 200 LMNGC and two others weights that will have a shorter nose to crimp and be correct for a FA 97 in 38-40
Hope this helps Todd Corder

I designed the mold and have a few folks who use them in the 45 Colt. Being it’s designer, I do have my own opinions regarding it, so you could say I’m prejudiced. Those who use it like it as they continue getting more of them.
I had Tom label my designs as Corder, so folks who wanted a mold for their own use would have the same that I cast for them.
It shoots well and is now my go to for the Colt in a traditional weight. It also has a .320 nose to crimp dimension so it should fit in the FA 97. Nose diameter is reduced to eliminate chambering problems, and the body bands are .454 min so you can size the body of the bullet to the dimensions your gun likes I kept it as a gas checked bullet as those little copper diapers help mitigate variations in guns.
I know you probably needed someone else to post their findings, alas you got me instead. If you choose the mold, I hope you enjoy it. If you want a few Bullets to try, drop me a pm and I’ll send you a few.
thanks Todd

X101, Hornady lists velocity for the 45 Colt Ruger/TC at 1300-1350 fps for their standard 250 grain XTP and 300's up to 1200-1300. As Bearskinner mentioned above, there is a cast bullet option too.
Not having used all manufacturers bullets, I'll make a guess, the from those that I've used, most standard bullets for the 45 Colt will work well at those velocities.
As far a premium bullets go, if you desire you can use them for more serious game. I use nearly all cast bullets for various reasons. As far as deep seating bullets, that can be invite problems and is a topic for a more discussion of it's own right. Due for sometime when I can articulate it more succinctly.
Hope this helps.

I trust they will. I hope for a Marlin 1894, 20" full octagon barrel and magazine tube chambered in 480 Ruger!

Dick,
All the best to you in getting an elk. That is one of my goals to take one with my handgun.
As far as I'm concerned, they are some of the best table fare around. I got a chance to hunt in Wy years back and got one with the rifle. Man are they tasty!
Keep us informed on the story.
Todd
