Okay, bullets, brass, cylinder, and gun in hand.... Gun is a 7.5 Bisley 41. Starline 414 brass... CPB 265 grain GC and a Leadheads PB 230 grain... The 265 cannelure places the nose of the bullet right at the end of the maximum cylinder... Looking like a .001 for .001 trim of cylinder and brass will get us where we need to be. About .2 off each of them should be close. Time to get John rolling on a reamer... ... Snapped a few pictures for the boys...

There probably aren't a lot of custom .414 Super Mags out there. This ought to be a fun one. I'm anxious to see some chrono results when you're done.

This will end up being a one of a kind 414 Supermag Super Special right? Maximum cylinder length without opening up the frame window length? It will be fun to see how the 41 Special, 41 Mag, 414 Special and the 414 supermag all compare once the last two get done and we can get some results.

Looked hard at a cylinder and NM BH frame last time I was at Gallagher's place... Lee is right when he says that there isn't enough frame in a NM BH for the entire Maximum Cylinder... Held one of the max cylinders that John has already cut too.. Might be able to cut a .1 out of the frame and keep a little more cylinder... Haven't decided on barrel length yet... Going to be hard to get out of the 5.5 groove but may be a waste of the 414 case to cut the 7.5 barrel shorter.... Then why not just go with the full max frame if we are going to leave the 7.5 inches of barrel. Decisions... Decisions.... You boys with those big honking long cylinder 41s are going to want one of these....

Axe.....like I said on the old forum, let me know when you get this done. My 401 Bobcat loads should be interchangeable with your 1.40" 41 Magnum (we're even shooting the same bullets since I downsize 230 and 265 41s to 10mm). Don't know how John's 41 reamer is set-up, but I make all of mine long on straight cases. In other words, my 41 Mag reamer is long enough so I can also chamber 414. -Lee www.singleactions.com

You know I'll be looking for your loading data when the gun is done... Really don't expect it to be a long drawn out process... Our plan is to use the Ruger 41 barrel.

Dude... I don't know Anything we gain on the end with a short nose will take up space in the case that we need for lots of powder.. The nose on that 265 is pretty thick.... It just barely clears the end of the stock maximum cylinder... Cut the cylinder .2, the brass .2, and go for it! What I am looking for is a significant increase in powder capacity with a heavier bullet... Sent a note to John today saying that I have the brass and bullets and was ready to go forward with having the reamer made. Let's see what John says about the 265... It will leave plenty of room for stuff like the Leadheads 230...

Just got conformation from John.... 414 brass and 265 grain bullets will be headed for Jasper tomorrow... You boys get your 41 Rugers boxed up and headed for Jasper... We will have a reamer to pay for!

Maybe that is what the Ron Powers #5 frame, the spare Max cylinder and the 8 3/8" S&W ribbed barrel will have to become! Oh wait a minute, I need a gun in the middle of all those parts don't I? ;D

Hate that #5 GF is for an OM... I have an extra NM 41 that could meet up with your parts in Jasper... Yeah, I have a few OM 41s too but they can't go to Jasper..... ;D

We will have a reamer to pay for! Is John's 41 reamer only long enough to chamber 1.29"? Many have enough over-run to handle the extra 0.11". -Lee www.singleactions.com

Robb Barnes, John Gallagher, Glenn Swaggart, and Lee Martin are the NUTS!. I am just an inocent young guy with a 41 Ruger and few bucks I am willing to donate... On the reamer... John cuts a stock 357 maximum cylinder ( provided by Robb) to fit the NM Blackhawk cylinder window with the forcing cone cut to minimum... John will will take the Starline 414 brass (provided by Robb) and the CP Bullets 265 GC ( provided by Glenn) and trim the case to the maximum length for the cylinder and bullet. The stock 414 case is 1.6... Best guess is that we will end up with a 1.4 case.... When John has constructed the dummy round he willl have a reamer made for it.. At this point my Ruger 41 comes into the mix.... John will ream the 357 max cylinder with the new reamer and do the expected trigger job , action job, OS base pin and sight work. Lee will send us his 410 Bobcat data for a load starting point...

[moved from the old forum] Here's what it'll look like: Left to Right - 401 Bobcat, 401 Bobcat w/265 grain, 41 Magnum: Just imagine the 41 at the same length as the 401 and that's what Axe is building. 0.11" doesn't sound like much until you put them side by side. The extra length allows another 4 grains or so of ball powder. -Lee www.singleactions.com
