What is your oddest sixgun/levergun combo? Well here is mine. They are both Uberti replicas imported by Cimarron Firearms of Fredricksburg, Texas. And both are chambered for the .38 Special cartridge. The sixgun is a replica of a Colt 1851 Navy that is a Richards Mason cartridge conversion. This was a very popular and low cost modification to allow an old cap and ball sixgun to fire cartridges. The levergun is a replica of a Winchester Model 1866 yellowboy. This one is a trapper, with a 16 inch barrel. i.imgur.com/P5uBH.jpg"] I have always wanted a complete outfit of guns that are appropriate for the Buffalo hunting era. These two would have been state of the art in 1871, the year the 1874 Sharps came out. I'm not completely satisfied with the caliber, but these would have mostly likely both been rimfire guns in 1871. I thought about 44 Special or 45 Colt, but I would have been tempted to hunt with them, at least the rifle. In 38 Special they are strictly fun guns.

Sharps has a "lever" right??? Sharps 45-70 and Linebaugh 475......not appropriate for the buffalo hunting era but I like them as a set anyway . I know they aren't the same caliber but I can make 475 from 45-70 brass

I like 'em too! I've got an early Big Timber Sharps inbound to my FFL as we speak. More excited about this gun than any in a long time.
Do you shoot black powder or smokeless in your Shiloh?

WH I understand the excitement. I was like a kid in the candy store. Ive wanted one for years so it was a dream come true to get one in hand with the help of my buddy Bob. I've only shot it a little but it's a tack driver. I was amazed the first time I put it on paper! I have been shooting it with smokeless. I had a desire to shoot black in it but I took the quick route getting it ready for the bison hunt. After seeing it shoot with that load, I don't know that ill do much different. No messy cleanup either. I was looking at paper patched bullets and all but it's much easier to do it the lazy way and shoot WFN over a charge of 2400 I'm sure you'll love it! I was using a 435 grain WFN that my buddy Hoover cast. It's a hammer. I used the 475 on the bison but took a large axis doe with the sharps at over 125 yards. They are incredible rifles! I was hooked when I had the opportunity to shoot Hoovers rifle at about 1125 yards this last summer. Takes a while for the ol slug to get there but it was amazing to see that when you missed, they were usually in the same spot and really close even at that distance with the old peep sight set up. Really cool and fun

My Ruger Single Ten & '59 Marlin 39A spend a good bit of time together. My .41Mag BH & Marlin .30-30 accompany one another to the deer woods. The .357 BH & .357 Rossi 92 haven't yet hunted together, but their time is coming. Have given up hope on finding/affording a Marlin 1895 in .41Mag, sigh. I'd kill for a .327Fed levergun, just so I could finally pickup the .327Fed BH I've secretly been lusting after for years.

The sixgun-levergun combo makes as much sense as ever. I'm needful of two things here. A second deer rifle, my one and only gave me difficulties at camp and SBH had issues too. Also needful, or wantful ? , of a lever gun for SASS. Sooo, want a levergun in .44mag that'll get mostly .44spec's thru it. What would fill that niche for under a grand ? stevemb

I'm poor so here's my contribution. A Cimarron Thunderer and a Rossi 92. I love both of them and the 92 shoots my favorite load into 1 1/4" at 50 yards with the stock crap buckhorn sight.

Years ago there were threads on leverguns as "grey man" assault rifles on more tactically minded web sites. I like to tell people, back in the day...the brown bess was the state of the art assault weapon. Civilians were not limited to a 6" bayonet. No levergun here yet though on my to buy next list. stevemb

Quite a pair and the 1866 looks like a handy little rifle. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

I don't know how odd they are. They are both .30 cal. and both use 30-30 Win. brass. The six gun is a 300 GNR rechambered from a 30 carbine. The 94 was my Grandad's, built in 1905.
