We never get tired of seeing that 414 Robb. It's a beautifully done custom. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Bill, the 5 shot gun really likes 26 grains of 1680 with the Oregon Trail 265 gc hardcast WNFP bullet. I have never shot as tight a group with a revolver as I have with that load. I may play with it going up to 26.5 then 27 as long as everything is okay meaning no extraction issues etc but Lee was right. This round really likes that powder. It seems much more pleasant to shoot than the 25 grains of H110. The H110 load has a much sharper recoil to me and doesn't group as well. I just found some 4227 which I want to try as well along with Davids idea of shooting the shorter rounds just for grins to see what the gun does with them. That would be kind of like Fermins magnum sized 44 Special he had built and explained the reasons for so well.

Robb do you know what the velocity is of that load? I am not familiar enough with the round to know what it is capable of running speed wise...
That gun is one of Alan's most impressive pieces of art he has produced...

Robb do you know what the velocity is of that load? That load went 1,500 fps from my 9.0" 414: Here's what it returned at 50 yards: -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Lee.... Just noticed the thickness of the scales where they meet the frame on that single action----vast improvement of the typical cartoon taper.

And sign me up for a shooting lesson, David Bradshaw I'd love to schedule a lesson David. You're welcome to come to Virginia and train me any time you'd like . Trust me....there's nothing I can show someone of your caliber (other than a nice day at the range). -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Time to resurrect this post...
So, kings6 and I did some horse trading and I ended up with this great sixgun, along with some brass, Oregon Trail bullets, and the elk stag grips. I am very pleased with it and can't wait to load up some rounds and take it out shooting.
However, what is most interesting about this gun is the following:
I used to own that gun!!! I purchased it at a gunshow in PA in 2008. It was a 10" 357 Max that I purchased D&T with a Burris 3X scope on it and a "home boy" round butt gripframe and grips (which I still have). I Bisley-ized it because I didn't like that round butt gripframe. I sold it to to a good friend of mine, another Ruger collector, on Nov 5, 2010 because I decided to use my Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley 45 Hunter to hunt with and just didn't shoot the 357 maximum.
I did take that gun out deer hunting in 2009 but couldn't connect on anything with it.
Now it is back in my possession as a completely different gun!!
Thanks, Robb, for helping it come back "home" :-P
