Only a small fraction of L.L.'s books got made into movies. I'd like to see "The First Fast Draw", made into a movie. Also "Bendigo Shafter". Many others. Now, who for a lead actor ? I gotta admit, Tom Selleck is getting a little long in the tooth to play a 20-30-something cowboy/frontiersman. So who of the current crop of male actors would be suitable ? I don't just mean for looks. The Duke is in his own category, Selleck seems to be a stand up guy. Who could follow in those shoes ? stevemb

I have been watching WESTERNS for better than 60 years, but I would have to give this some thought. Needless to say the male actors of today are not the same as back then. Most actors today seem to be Liberal and anti-gun and it just is not right for them to portray a "cowboy".

Timothy Olyphant, he is Raylan Givens on JUSTFIED. He has a natural slow talkin' drawl that enables him to fit the part of a cowboy. He also portrayed a western character in another show but I do not remember the title. I just hope he is not a Liberal.

Onehandgunner, you understand perfectly, no scientology types need apply, etc.. I'd like to see more of the Sackett series made into movies, also "Haunted Mesa". I'm not up on current male actors. Would Stratham or the guy that played lead in the "Transporter" series fit the bill ? stevemb

Would love to see the sackett book "ride the dark trail" made to a movie. Would have to be a tall big actor cuz Logan Sackett was 6'4". Also "ride the river" the one about the girl named Echo Sackett.

Timothy Olyphant played "Sheriff Bullock" on HBO's DEADWOOD. steve, some of these action actors just don't have the "ring" to them that a "cowboy" has. A "cowboy" actor has to have that lifestyle "born" into them not just learned in some OFF BROADWAY play house. As far as Jason Stratham, I don't know. The guy that plays the sheriff on "Longmire" would be good, but I don't know anything about him.

That was quite a switch from being a "goofy" plane mechanic. He does have the look. In the movie "Broken Trail" he did good. It takes some " learnin' " to be a good western ( cowboy ) actor. "A cowboy hat and jeans does not a cowboy make", John Travolta to be exact. I quit wearin' cowboy hats when he did that movie where he was a oil field hand and went dancin' at Mickey Gillies.

I'll 3rd anson mount. Timothy Olyphant isn't a bad choice as well. He seems pretty trigger happy on justifed.

I use a website, www.thelastbestwest.com, as a reference for my Western Cowboy movie information. They are a Cowboy hat sales site listing actors, movie titles and of course the "HAT". Has anyone seen the movie "HITMAN"? Olyphant stared in that. Not a WESTERN by no means, but real a good action movie.

Even made a spectacular long shot with a Colt SAA that had no front sight <G>. Loved the movie "Broken Trail". Somehow Church even managed to make that goofy looking hat look cowboy cool. Somebody needs to teach him how to shoot a lever action Winchester though. He would shoot it then take his fingers out of the lever and pull it down from the outside, then put his fingers back inside the lever again to pull the trigger. Then remove his fingers again from the lever to cock it again. A bit slow shooting that way.
