Just became interested in the SAA.Purchased a used 3rd.Gen. The gun has a frame mounted firing pin and a square notch in top strap. Is this the way all SAA are being produced at Colt now?

What you have is a Colt Cowboy. It's not the same thing as a SAA. It was designed for the Cowboy Action Shooters and never really caught on and was only made for a few years.

>>I HOPE YOU DIDN'T PAY AN SAA PRICE FOR A COWBOY!<<
Oh man, I hope not. The "Cowboy" was assembled and "sorta" finished by Colt out of Italian-made parts. Their reputation for reliability is suspect at best. Due purely to the Colt name they're worth maybe $500 or a hair more mint, and most aren't mint. I wouldn't pay $300 for one.
If the seller said "SAA" and you paid a grand or more, you need to file a lawsuit for fraud.

I've seen a couple of the Colt Cowboys priced at $700. This isn't to say they sold for that amount. I've never seen one price lower than $500.

I STILL HAVE MINE AND IT IS AN EXCELLENT SHOOTER BUT THAT ISN'T THE POINT. DID HE PAY SAA PRICE FOR A COWBOY? I CAN'T IMAGINE ANYONE SPENDING $800 FOR ONE!

JT I understood your point and it is well taken. But the auctions are a good measure of "worth". Since the one I posted sold for $805 I guess that is a ballpark of their worth. Personally I would add a hundred or so and buy a NF or better yet 2 decent Rugers.
