Decided on the 4" 624 for my hunting companion this year. Went out to the range today to confirm that the sights were still on at 25yds for a Lyman 429421 over 16gr of 2400, then dug out the El Paso Saddlery Tanker holster I've got for my 4" 'Smith's. The holster rides well underneath a jacket or vest and helps keep the gun dry when it really starts to rain. You'll have to forgive me on the grips. Though I've got several pairs of nice grips, when I'm expecting alot of time out in the rain this old pair of Pachmayr's comes out. Only pair of rubber grips I own and I keep'em around for that occasion only. Can't really beat a 4" 'Smith with the trim barrel. I'm gathering parts to make one up in 45 Colt on a beater '29 I've got hanging out in the safe...

Very nice outfit! I just picked up a 4" 29-2 and also use the same style pachs for range duty etc. No sense in dinging up some nice furniture.

nice rig. I have a .44 mag Mountain Gun; the Hogue grips aren't the prettiest thing, but they get an "A" for functionality.

No barrel length minimums for hunting there ? Or purely a back-up piece, camp gun ? stevemb

This one's for backup, but there's no barrel length restriction that I'm aware of in Oregon. The game regulations (page 30) only mention caliber, differentiating between ".22 or larger" and ".24 or larger."

What kinda velocity do you figure the 16gr charge of 2400 is giving you ? Curious. stevemb

I have an EP tanker for my 629 5 incher as well. Not a pretty basket weave like yours but I love the tanker style holsters. Have one for a 1911 that fits a sp101 nicely too btw. Nice rig. Good luck this year.

We can hunt elk here with a 25 auto according to the regs, lol (any centerfire cartridge 24 caliber or larger).

In my FT NMBH's and my OM 44 Spl that load does between 1050 and 1125 depending on the gun. It's a sweet shooter in all of them.
Nice choice on you complete rig. Love the holster too.

I really like that Tanker rig, too. Very sharp.
