Having been between Churches for too long now, I consider Axe's Sunday am posts a gentle and appreciated reminder to get back upon the path.

Can see a drift 9 - 10 ft high just past the windbreak on the east side... Truck looks like a rhino... Has a 2ft drift on the hood peaking at the front... Most of the driveway looks like I could get out with 4x4... But will be some plowing before I go anywhere... Wind is still blowing 20 - 55 mph... So I won't be on the tractor for at least a couple hours

Just rain here but supposedly some white stuff starts at midnight and through tomorrow. Good day to stay in the shop working on projects it sounds like. Since leaving the classroom several years ago, the wife has been volunteering at a free medical clinic our church is involved in. Now with the business phone gone she has become even more involved which means I have to. Today's project is build photo frames and other decorations for the upcoming volunteer appreciation dinner.
The clinic has several hundred volunteer workers, doctors, nurses etc and they serve over 5000 patients a year between the Salem clinic and the clinic here in Dallas. The vast majority of the patients are working folks who are between jobs, new residences or folks who simply can not afford health insurance. (Shoot, if it were not for the faith based medical co-op my wife and I are members of, we couldn't afford what your insurance premiums were going to!) We were surprised that there are very few homeless patients with the high number of homeless in Salem. Unfortunately, mental illness seems to be the biggest factor in the homeless coming to the clinic.

Well that was fun... Spent 3 hours on the driveway, so I could go into work for a couple hours... Got a mile down the road. Between 100 year old pine trees on both sides of the road... Snow was 2 ft deep for a couple 100 yards... Then at the end, the neighbor who lives there took a path out his driveway, with a plow on a truck, to the ditch on the opposite side, leaving a 4ft barricade of snow fully across the road... I had to stop in the deep snow... Rocking it trying to back up, truck slid sideways into the ditch... Fortunately I was only about 1/2 mile from a neighbor with a big tractor, who owes me a favor... An hour later I was back home... Not sure when I'll get to work tomorrow, since the neighbor blocked the road to thru traffic???

How selfish can a guy be to leave a 4' wall of snow in the middle of the road?

Like Robb said, we're supposed to get snow tonight and tomorrow, maybe even a little on Tuesday. We'll see... last time they said 4 or 5 days of snow and we got a dusting of about 1 inch of snow that melted right away.
The worst thing I had to drive in last week was a major hail storm that left about 3-4" of slush/ice/snow pack on the road. I have 4 studded snow tires on my little car and had to slow down to about 40 mph... saw one guy in a 4wd spun out on a corner and everyone else was slowing down to about 20-25 mph.
Weird weather. There was lightning striking nearby, too. I drove a few miles down the road to take my daughter home and it was sunny with blue sky.

The wind is easing some here. MWM got all of our snow. Windchills rough. Lots of limbs and branches down and section of vinyl siding will need attention. The feared roof damage didn't happen. Some power blips but got lucky there too.

Got to work 2.5 hours late this morning... tried an alternate route to work, & was blocked by 4ft snow drifts... had to go back home & wait for the county to make a pass down the road... forecast is brutal... pretty much snow everyday this week... in fact it's already snowing again now, & they haven't even gotten the freeways open... looks like we only really got 13" of snow, but with 55 mph wind gusts behind it & all the ditches already full we had the worst blizzard in a decade... funny we had the coldest weather in a decade a could weeks ago... this one is turning out to be a brutal winter... we're also 12" away from from the most snow on record, & snow in all the forecasts in the future... this winter may break all the records...

Picked up quite a bit of that white stuff. Need to get out once the wind dies down a little to start snow removal.

9 miles from town... I quit counting at 20 stranded vehicles... news say the National Guard was out picking up stranded motorist with special tracked troop haulers the last couple days in our county... between them & the Sheriffs department more than 50 vehicles... & that's not counting the amount of people picked up by snowmobilers which it sounds like picked up the same kind of numbers
