As I get older I have kinda got tired of the hard kicker. I would like to try the FA 44 mag. Taffin says they don't really kick that hard and I kinda think they would maybe kill a small deer. I know you could just load the 454 down but I have not shot a 44 in several years and I think this one would be a good one to try. Any opinions on this? Does anybody own one? Seems Kelly killed a few animals with the 44. Just kidding about the small deer part.

FA makes some nice 44s. Recoil isn't bad at all if you've been shooting stuff like 454s, 475, 50s, and 51s.

The first FA I ever bought (1990) was a FG 7 1/2" .44 Mag. I have taken several head of game with it including deer, hogs, and sheep. I normally run a Sierra 240 JHC @ 1550 fps in it, using a standard "book" load of 24 gr. 296, although one could obviously load it lighter or just a bit heavier, if they choose. I liked it so much that a few years later I bought a used 6" PG, that I have been equally satisfied with. The FA .44 is an excellent choice for an accurate powerful revolver.

Always amazed at the cylinder gap in FA's products, sooooo small

Razor, I picked up a new-to-me 7.5" PG 44 last year in my quest to somehow catch up with Axe and his FA set (lofty goals, I know). Topped with a 2-6 Bushnell Elite, it meets all of my accuracy expectations of my FA's. This 14 yd shot didn't test the accuracy potential, but it worked just fine to break her in for me And it is a relief from the pounding of my Casull's, Linebaugh and 500WE. Strange how I shoot the 44 and 41 so well... Buy one - you'll love it!

[ kidding of course, i carry my 44s all the time here in bear country.....course i havent had to test the theory on a bear ]

That 10" gun of Axe's has taken a few head in KS and OK. Great shooting gun!!! No recoil and it embarrassed a rifle hunter back home in Mississippi one morning after a hunt. He was shooting at coke cans full of coke at 115 yards. Never hit them with his 270 but that 44 didn't miss . He still laughs about it...I let him shoot at the last one and he was actually closer with the FA than his rifle cause he was concentrating more. Great guns!!!
