Guys, what is a ball park price for a John Linebaugh 45 Colt done on the Ruger Bisley frame. No barrel band, round 5 1/2" barrel, plain ramp sight, ruger grips. The cylinder and barrel appear to be the only thing custom. A 2 digit number in the 40's is stamped on the bottom of the frame. I assume it is an early gun and it is in about 95% condition mainly from the cylinder ring. Looking for a rough estimate? Thanks

Is it a 5 or 6 shot revolver? It would be very important to know...

I don't recall if it was 5 or 6 shots. It was under glass when I looked at it. The price was $1795 which I thought was high for a revolver without many features. Did Linebaugh start out making 5 shot conversions for long heavy 45's before the bigger bores? Can I assume the 2 digit number on the frame means it is an early gun?

Can I assume the 2 digit number on the frame means it is an early gun? Not necessarily. John numbered his guns by type. I had a gun done by him last year with a number of 66. It was the 66th bisley vaquero he converted. Probably best to call him for an estimate of age.

I am not sure if he numbered his six-shot conversions or not. Lee hooked me up with a fella couple years back now that had a nice custom six-shot that was in mint condition with John's ivory micarta grips. He even had all the correspondence back and forth--from 1992 when he ordered it. I really liked the gun and think we settled on around $1,300 for the gun shipped.
If a six-shot, I would think that was high if it has signs of wear, no band and no custom grips. If a five shot, it's still up there, but getting a lot closer. There was an older 5-shot with banded barrel and a fair amount of wear and some grip frame fitment issues (factory plastic white grips) that went on gunauction a few months back for just around $1600 ish.
My $.02

It is dependent on these factors.
One: if it is a five or six shot Two: if the six shot is a "small" or "oversize" cylinder six shot.
With the number in the 40's, it is likely and oversize six shot 45 colt, non Bisley. I believe the Bisley versions are numbered to themselves.

Well, I went back today and checked out the revolver again but decided to pass, it just wasn't what I wanted. Here are the details if anyone is interested. It is at Cabelas, in Gonzales, LA. It had paperwork with it where the original owner ordered a #2 big bore 6 shot conversion in 45 colt with oversize cylinder. Stamped with #42 on the bottom of the frame. No barrel band, aluminum EJR housing ,Ruger grips, aftermarket rear sight, standard base pin with screw. I would say better than 95% with most of the wear from the cylinder ring. From the original Ruger SN it started life as a 1993 Super Blackhawk so it is not real early. The paperwork had a Missouri address for Linebaugh. It is not on Cabelas website so you will have to call and speak to someone. It had a $1795 price tag on it but they have had it awhile. My guess is $1600 shipped will get it.
