So, once upon a time a poor Alaskan soul, missing the sun, mired into the negative temperatures of winter picked up a dog of a flat top Ruger 357 for a conversion project. The seller--a popular fellow known by many--yeah, you Robb--was up front about the gun having much wear, scratches and pitting, but the price was right. He also advised the griprfame was an XR3-RED, so would also need a frame to make it right. Simple enough, and to save shippin back and fourth, lets just have that dog sent directly to Clements. Skip forward some 28 months later, this dove arrived today. Now made proper, the way it was meant to be, a 45 LC. Accurized, polished, turnbull colors, just all around sweet. The grips are a pair of Dall sheep stocks from an old broomed off horn I had laying around a paper weight until Scott Kolar talked me into cutting it up. Will have to get out soon so I can fling some lead and give a proper range report.

And to top it off, when I originally placed the order with Clements, he said he had a nice XR3 frame he could use, $100. I said fine, would need one anyway. Several months back he e-mailed and said to his surprise old Robb must have missed the fact that it wore a XR3 frame, but had XR3-RED stocks fit to it--must fooled ol' Robb. Clements had already cleaned and refinished the donor frame he had, so we stuck with it and I received the extra frame and XR3-RED stocks back in the mail with the dove--along with a factory set of checkered rubber XR3 grips from the frame he donated. So for the $100, Clements hooked me up with not only a nice XR3 frame, but the black factory XR3 grips--in fine shape. Cannot complain about that deal. So, upon quick look, XR3 or XR3-Red? But when you pull the grips with the wrong, misleading medallions, we see the truth. The contour of the frame gives it away if one really looks, but when you just glance at the grips, very misleading. Should have taken a picture of the other side, thought the serial number was a bit cool too, 25001. Robb, just wish I had saved one or two of the original pictures you posted or e-mailed me so folks could see the transformation.

That is what I am talking about when I tell guys the wait is worth it for one of these type guns. A beautiful heirloom piece to pass on to kids or special friends some day. It turned out great to say the least. I am glad tohave had a small hand in the whole process, even if I did mess upon the grip frame. ;D

Love the Bisley hammer and Turnbull coloring! This forum is teaching me alot quality single action revolvers....and may lead to an eventual divorce.....unless I figure out how to creatively finance some quality work like this!

Zeus, I only wish I could claim those knives as my creation. They are made by Gene Ingram, a wonderful working knife maker. Great guy to boot. You can easily order one or ten, no deposit needed, and sometimes he will have open spots to jump further up in line or knives that are ordered and go unclaimed. Before the 2008-9 downturn his wait list was up about 4 years. Nowadays it's much better until deer season.
