A while back Rob L faciltated a S&W model 29 and supplied a stunning Gitlein carved holster. The example is a work of functional art. It's also an inspiration to some of us amateur wannabes. Still a lot of work to be done and a lot to learn. In case you were wondering what it's for: There is an incredible amount of work in something like this. I am in awe of Rob and the artists who do this on a daily basis.

I've always made my own holsters. I don't tool mine though. I'm not that artistic. :-)

I've always made my own holsters. I don't tool mine though. I'm not that artistic. :-) Obviously, neither am I....... On the other hand, I copied the pattern for this one from one of the Stohlman books and I think it is far too complicated for a holster (too many leaves that overlap and too little carving skill). I think maybe part of the 'art' is in the simplicity of the pattern.

"I think maybe part of the 'art' is in the simplicity of the pattern." I agree! Thad Rybka's excellent work comes to mind; he is the holster makers maker. Artistic simplicity and utility nothing there that doesn't have a purpose.

They're talent just keeps on improving, very clean tooling, very clean stitching, I used to be a hobbiest but time just won't co-operate, but I DO recognize talent when I see it, good work Rob & Mr Gitlein.
