I took a good while, but I finally got what I was waiting for. A set of 3 consecutive serial numbered Lipseys 44 special flattop sixguns! Why 3? Simple enough, I bought 2 extras as gifts for my 2 sons who are both just absolute treasures. I will keep the one serial numbered in the middle, that way each of my sons has one that is consecutive to mine.
The first word that comes to mind in handling this super cool flattop is Handy. I love the balance and heft of this all steel sixgun. The caliber itself is one of my absolute favorites. I have always liked the Micro rear sight on the flattop sixguns and the front sight on this one fills the rear notch nicely. BTW, all 3 sixguns are the 5.5 inch length. While I love the looks of the shorter models the 5.5 inch shoots the best for me. The broad flattop reciever and stout barrel with the warning on the bottom make for a very clean look. The grip frame fits the main frame perfectly and pulling the cylinder I find it has the best fitting base pin I have ever felt on a Ruger. The cylinder throats measure a consistent .4315 which is definitely a good thing.
While I normally modify my Rugers quite a bit, I may leave this one alone. Cept for maybe a trigger job. Not that the trigger is bad, its quite usable as is. It's just that Harton has spoiled me....
A very good job by Ruger.

Great idea with the serial #'s! I also have the 5 1/2" version and it has shot every load heavy or light, lead or jacketed, within a couple inches. I am fiddling with different grips because I found the stock plastic to be uncomfortable with the snappier loads. I picked up a set of Rosewood (from Ruger) and the worked well and looked good and more recently a set of walnut "EIG" style from Bear Paw grips. Haven't shot them yet but the are thin throughout with a flat cut bottom. We'll see...I like the look of the walnut, it just looks like a functional working gun. The weight is just right and I really like the steel ERH and Steel frame, IMHO that's how they should all be made. My trigger is good for a stock Ruger and I'll shoot it and see if it lightens a little. I 've been carrying mine in a EP saddlery threeperson's style crossdraw. I still may add a Bisley style hammer or a SBH style but for now it is just getting a lot of gunpowder burnt through it, seems to do great with Unique and 231. Ruger did good with this one.

Hmmmmmm, do you mind if I borrow that idea with the serial numbers, got some bad news last night and think my daughter and maybe a new one might need consecutively numbered sixguns to mine, but I'd have to buy 3 brand new guns all at once

It comes to my mind all the years I read various posts about folks who resisted building a custom 44 special Ruger saying they would wait for a factory product. Seems to me, Ruger got this one right and it was worth the wait. That being said, much credit must be given all the craftsmen who built for us all the wonderful custom 44 special sixguns over the years. I have come to know many of them personally and they certainly deserve our continued support. My new Ruger Flattops are fine 44 specials, but I have no plans to discontinue my custom 44 special habit!

I have no intention of turning mine into a magnum, but just for grins, I put a cylinder full of Elmer's load through it yesterday. Five of the six hit my 40 yard steel gong from standing, off-hand. It's now loaded with Skeeter's load again for the duration, and I'm having a hard time getting this grin off my face.

I have been extremely satisfied with the EIG Bear Paw grips. They pretty much take the bite out of the heavy loads in most of my guns. I give them an A+ in looks, fit and price for an off the shelf product. Not to mention they are good people to deal with.

Fermin, before you have Harton do his thing to the gun try dropping one of the legs of the return spring down. Mine came out better that many I have paid good money to have clean up. It will hold you for a while, I have fallen in love with mine and have probably run close to 2000 rounds though it so far.

To date, I've only been able to handle one, a 4 5/8" model. Seems to be a very well balanced sixgun, just as I expected. The early reports of it being overweight, to me, are unfounded. Price was reasonable but there were several scratches along the side and honestly, I'm not in a big hurry to get one. There are other guns I want first and I'm still trying to fund several custom sixgun projects. Including another .44Spl conversion on an Old Model, which I planned on being a little extravagant. I was always a big proponent of it and will eventually have one. Just not right now.

2 dogs I think you will very pleased with your Lipseys Ruger mine shoots like a custom with 13grs of 2400. The only thing I did was add a set of Pvt Schultzs Holly grips and bought an El Paso Saddlery Threepersons holster for it. I am like you I like the looks of the shorter barrel but the 51/2 in barrel just seems to shoot better

I have been working a few different loads through mine and it really liked 14 grs of 2400.Besides the skeeter load it seems to like 18.5 grs of H110 with a 240 Gold Dot. Its pretty snappy with those loads in the 4 in. but very smooth with the CLC Mesquites

I have the 5.5" model, it needed a little work. The trigger was very creepy, a little smoothing and sear notch work fixed that. The barrel crown was oblong looking, closer inspection found the muzzle was not cut square to the bore, it's squared up and the crown was re-cut. Sights are centered perfectly and it shot pretty good the way it came from the factory, have not had a chance to shoot it since it has been cleaned up.

I wish I could just get one so I could have some sort of impression. My impression now is that they are giving my dealer the run around. I am calling my dealer tomorrow to get him to check again on my 4 5/8" that been ordered for 6 month's.

My dealer is fairly new to Lipsey, is a small dealer and has no clout. Lipsey apparently is NOT handling these on a first come first served basis. My dealer is a close friend and I'll stay with him but Lipsey is not gaining any points from me.
So, I am still waiting...

I wish I could find a Lipsey's dealer out here. The one's on the Lipsey's website are actually not buying from them anymore and just haven't been removed from the list, and they gave up Lipsey's for the same reason (they don't take care of everybody, just the big guys and everybody else gets what's left)
