I picked up a Hy hunter 22 this week. I probably paid to much $125. it is missing the front sight ( i have already cast a new one) and came with a hunter brand holster. the holster doesnt fit this gun but does fit 3 of my double action guns.
I know its not a high quality gun but was wondering if any one here has any experiance with them?
I have been wanting a bisley 44 spec flat top so I put in a order for one. I just hope I havent waited to long. I was quoted $525. I guess if I have to I will take the standard grip. My question in long winded fashion is. Is the new flat top frame the xr3 or xr3 red? Thanks for putting up with my looong winded post. Jeff

Hy Hunter was a distributor for Great Western Arms in the 50’s. That relationship ended and about 1959 he went to Germany to have a six-shooter made that he could retail under his brand. The Hy Hunter Frontier is a JP Sauer pattern sixgun. In 1967 the Hy Hunter line became the Hawes line.
For these in .22 the frame is all alloy, and the barrel and cylinder are alloy with steel sleeves. The hand, bolt, and springs are SAA style. Hammer and firing pin is like the Great Western. Overall dimensions are SAA.
They are not “collectable”, but it’s not a junk gun. They are solid, cheap fun. You probably didn’t overpay. Seems they are getting $125 - $150 for the .22s on Gunbroker.

I recently picked up a "like new" (with box and papers, looks unfired) Bisley Flat Top 5 1/2" barrel 44 Special. Haven't had a chance yet to shoot it, but I like the looks and feel. Worked over the factory trigger spring and it went from 5 to 2 pounds. I recut the barrel lead/throat to an 11 degree angle yesterday and loaded up a box of 6.5 grains of Unique behind a 255 grain lyman 429244 gas check bullets. Good luck on your search.
