While surfing Gunbroker (an expensive thing to do!) I ran across this short barreled Ruger .44 Blackhawk with 3 3/4" barrel. Has anyone seen or tried one yet? I am wondering just how limited a production run these have....or if they'll be available for a while yet? Need to know when to "jump" and get me one (now, or do I have time to wait?). Thanks, here's a link: www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=285685521

Wait ? Did you say wait ? How many times have you waited, only to find something you wanted gone ? Since the opening bid and the Buy Now price are the same, I see no advantage to wait as in trying to outbid someone. As for rarity, this is the first I have seen of a Blackhawk in this barrel length. Maybe others more familiar with Rugers have seen one. They are always coming out with "distributor exclusives". Note that the barrel length is 3.75 not 3.5 as usually seen with Sheriff's and Storekeepers models. I have a Montado, which I believe, was the first model in this barrel length. The Montados have fixed sights. I love the 3.75 barrel length. It is so well balanced. I would buy it out from under you, if I did not have other irons in the fire at the moment. My only negative comment is that I do not believe those grips are "rosewood". They appear to be some type of laminate.

Eh, I got too many irons in the fire myself to be able to procure one of these at this moment. Hopefully they'll be available ina month or three!

I bought an Original Size VAQUERO in 44 magnum that someone had cut down to 3.5 inches, magna-ported and a super blue job. $350 out the door at me and Subsonic's favorite local gun shop..Kevin's Guns in St Charles MO. I added a DRAGOON grip frame and the SUPER BLACK HAWK hammer and trigger from 2 Dogs. Neat little toy, but shoots about 8 inches low with 429421 clones from MI-HEC and MMA10MM group buy from LEE. Recoil ain't too bad, but I don't load real hot. (Today was 220 grain 44 wadcutters over 6.0 of HP38 in "shorty" and a pair of 5.5 inch Original Size VAQUEROS.) I will probably re-barrel, sell it or trade up to a 5.5 or 7.5 inch 44 magnum VAQUERO.
Save your money...IF you want one of those 3.75 inch guns now. Wait a year or two and get one considerably cheaper when there is a more user friendly item that catches the owner's eye.

If it had the hunter or bisley grip frame on it, I'd be all over it. But I HATE that standard blackhawk grip frame. HATE.
And that little dude is going to need to be held onto if you're serious at the loading bench.
But it is pretty cool and Midway shows stainless hunter gripframes from time to time.
If someone is looking to buy one of these, I know where one is cheaper than that auction.

You just let me know if you ever want to let go of that shorty Vaquero with the Dragoon grip frame and SBH hammer. First Dibs!!!!
