I've owned this gun since 2003 and it's digested just over 3,000 rounds of heavy 475. Every bit as accurate as the day I bought it so I treated it to a facelift: 1) Jack Huntington grip extension with white micarta 2) We cut the barrel and re-crowned it to 6 1/4" 3) 2Dogs front sight 4) Action tuned to 3 lbs, no creep 5) Forcing cone checked out so we didn't true it Simple modifications but it looks like a new gun. Now if Magnum Research would only ship them like this. In my opinion Jack's grip extension is a "must" for BFRs. I've been a long time fan of the Bisley, but after holding the JRH design I have a new favorite. It's that good. Not only does it give you more support he added room between the trigger guard and inner edge. My knuckle will be most appreciative. I have another 100 round session of heavy 420 gr planned soon. I'll let you all know how it does on target. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

That turned out excellent!! Wow! I shot cottonstalk's .500 JRH Ruger on Friday with the plow handle grip extension and I hate to say that I think I might like it a smidgeon better than the Bisley (an unmodified Bisley). It just plain works.

Lee would you happen to have a side by side comparison of Jacks extention? About the only thing I don't like about mine is the knuckle rapping. Doesn't take too many rounds to cause it to get swelled up and sore for a few days!

Unfortunately, I don't. But I will say this. My re-worked BFR has even more room than Jack's Bisley treatment. And I've shot Whitworth's 500 Maximum a bunch and it's never touched my knuckle. This contour really works. I have a 100 round session with my 475 at week's end. I'll let you know how it does. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Let me repost this picture. It is of a Ruger grip extension from Huntington, and my reworked Bisley, and you can readily see what has been done to them both.

Great picture Whit. And Jack puts even more room between the trigger guard an inner edge on the BFR. Remember, he's essentially starting with a Super Blackhawk grip with the Magnum Research (and SBH's are already extended more than either the Bisley or XR3-RED). -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Lee, What's your take on that grip compared to a model 83? With respect to knuckle bashing and control.

Does jack modify an existing bisley or create one from the blackhawk. His card does say "Advanced Gunsmithing"

Lee, What's your take on that grip compared to a model 83? With respect to knuckle bashing and control. I haven't shot this one yet, but on feel alone it's way better than an 83. I have a 100 round session of max 420 grain set for Saturday. I'll let you know how it does. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Does jack modify an existing bisley or create one from the blackhawk. His card does say "Advanced Gunsmithing" That's a modified plow handle, not a Bisley. But, he does modify the Bisley as well (as seen on my .500 Maximum) and it gives you a bit more space between your knuckle and the trigger guard.

Wow Lee that was quick. How ong did that take? I have been contemplating sending my BFR in for the same treatment. The short turnaround is VERY hard to resist.

Jack turned it around in just under 3 weeks. Not sure if that's the norm, but I was very pleased with his service and work. He's a top-notch smith. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Made a world of difference on my 475 BFR too. I prefer it to the Bisley.
