Did 3rd Generation Colt Single Action Armies ever come from the factory with lanyard rings? I saw a 5 1/2" 44 Special with one today, but I don't remember ever hearing about lanyard rings.

Not sure but I doubt it. I have passed on more than one nice gun because some one felt the need to put one on it. I am all for modifications to guns we are going to keep, otherwise I say leave them be. Opinions will vary of course.

Lanyard rings are not among the currently listed options but that doesn't mean they never offered them.

It could have been a custom shop addition, but more than likely aftermarket.

The thoughts you guys are posting mirror my own. Other than the lanyard ring, it was a solid, factory condition SAA. Overall nice condition and properly cared for and his asking price was a thousand dollars but he might have come down some.

Could be a decent deal if you can talk him down off of $1K and the lanyard ring was nicely done.
My advice though is to examine the gun CAREFULLY for defects. Lots of 3rd Gens are clunkers. Pay particular attention to the cylinder fitting. If the cylinder rattles: PASS. This is especially true if the gun is an earlier 3rd with the pressed in bushing. There can be other problems as well, so if you don't already know what makes a 'good' single action then study up before buying a 3rd Gen.

Thanks for the advice. My impression when I handled it was that it rattled some when I held it by the grip and shook it a little. I thought it might have been the lanyard ring, but it seemed to have movement when I shook it.

I would think a factory installed lanyard ring on a gun without other custom shop mods, would be unusual.
