I picked up an un-converted three screw single six a few months back, mostly for the extra .22wmr cylinder to give to my dad for his single six.
The .22lr is a shooter, but the last inch of the 6 1/2 barrel looks a bit cooked. Part of me is thinking of fixing it up- either having the barrel cut back or putting a new barrel on it altogether. Another part of me is thinking to just leave well enough alone. Thoughts?

If it were me, I'd leave her be. If she's a shooter, as you say, leave her alone till she's not, then re-barrell or cut back as needed. What ever you do, don't send her to Ruger when you decide to re-barrel her, , or they will convert her in the process.

I'd be tempted to put a premium barrel on it, see what it'll do!

Put her in the safe, take her out of the safe to shoot. Take her out of the safe while you are watching TV, Pet her and clean her very carefully. Watch as she grows old and serves you extremely well. But never force that beautiful perfectly functioning girl to be something she should not.
.22lr never, never gets cooked may just be a cleaning issue.
Aint Broke Dont Fix It.

I beg to differ. I found a "beater" .44 Flattop at a local gunshow. I tried many different .44 mag. loads and all shot "patterns" and not groups. Met Neil Wheeler (may he R.I.P.) at a Salt Lake gunshow. He said "send it to me and I'll see what I can do". He tried a few things and set it back, still a lousy shooter. OK, I called John Linebaugh. He "gave it a shot" which included fitting a "take off" New Model barrel, which, by the way, improved the accuracy of the revolver significantly. John returned the gun and even included the "spare" New Model barrel. OK, next step: send it to Ruger. "OMG, you CAN'T send a gun to Ruger, they'll ruin it by changing out the lockwork!!!" Hmm, well, I guess I got around that by removing the lockwork prior to shipping. Ruger rebarreled and refinished the ol' .44. I swapped out the transfer bar lockwork and added a few other "goodies"...... It's been one of my "go to" carry guns for years and years........ JMHO, Carl

Now Im not sure if we are talking about a "Shooter Grade" gun or a gun that is a SHOOTER?

I believe we're talking about a gun that is a SHOOTER - as in, not pretty, but accurate! I know that's what I was talking about!
And Carl, that's a neat-looking sixgun!

Thank you for the responses everyone, it's greatly appreciated.
As is, it shoots like a dream- it's why I'm hesitant to do anything with it. I bought it just to get the extra cylinder for my dad. I wasn't expecting much but I got surprised. It looks like it had a hard life, but the trigger is nothing short of awesome and the results downrange put a big smile on my face.

I think if it shot that well, I'd just enjoy it & not fuss with it. Frank
