How about a chronograph thread ? This is the Federal Load from wally world . The chronograph is the crony F-1. Probably the most basic model you can get and also probably the best $100.00 I have ever spent.

Nice set-up. How far apart are the screens on that model? -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Have used it a lot...it's the shooter's version of the fisherman's "de-liar". A little picky on lighting sometimes, but very portable.

I have the model a step up from yours and the best $$ I have spent in a while. I find my loads clock faster than what most gun writers claim. Not sure why, but its allowed me to tailor some loads to what I want, and not be quite so hot.

(Nice set-up. How far apart are the screens on that model?) -Lee Screens are 12 inches apart . Like oldschool and hammerdown 77 mentioned they are a little light senstive somtimes. I have had this unit for 8 years ? I should probably buy another and put it on the shelf so if I plug it one day I ll have another ready to go. While I have never killed (fatally shot ) a chronograph I have had a close call which I did not realize at the time. At the bottom of the Y in word crony you will see a half circle....fortunately this is on the back of the unit and does not affect anything...except I could cut a finger on it I guess. Lets see who else will fess up ? LOL

Another Chrony user here. I've got the green one with the remote readout that you can tether up to the bench. Mine has worked very well, but it does seem very light position sensitive (duh, that's how they work!). No, I mean position of the light source (sun). I get the most repeatible, consistent results when using it on overcast days, or in complete shade.
I've had people tell me that that if you make little cardboard box "shields" to put around the sensors, that will help tremendously with the light position sensitivity. Haven't tried that yet.

Nothing a hammer couldn't fix! ;D

Good job oldschool ! LOL
the Chronograph is such a useful, eyeopening and fun tool to have most especially for the hand-loader. Hard to imagine how we Managed to survive before we got one...LOL

Just look at This rabbit here. he got no sense at all. Look at him lining up behind the screens of my chronograph ! If I had a mind to I coulda checked my velocity and got dinner with just one shot. He's lucky I was plumb full when I spied him !

With that last photo you can test velocity and terminal ballistics all at the same time! ;D

I've killed the skyscreens on the Oehler 33, but thankfully it wasn't my fault. ( at least not all mine ) I was testing sabot slugs and one test load had the sabot fail upon firing causing the whole projectile to yaw severely upon exit. The wad cleaned out the first skyscreen, but to my amazement the thing still works although the plastic housing is kput. In the past we have killed a screen or two at John's seminar here in Carthage. One pair has a telltale 475 thru the front screen and clipped the wire so close to the plastic on the second it looks as though you had cut it with a knife.

He's lucky I was plumb full when I spied him ! Around my place that one would have been fox food. A friend of mine and I were using a crony and it disintigrated in front of his eyes. He then changed over to a pact due to the fact that the eyes were less expensive to replace.

I must admit this thread is amussing...I have had several chrono....that were shot on accident do to improper results!I must admit as well that 1) they do not taste very good BBq or roasted....The more recent chrono lives at my friends house for safe keeping. ( they would not read a 500 Linebaugh tried many length from bench to sky screen adjustments)...oh well !!!Thanks for a smile this morning ...
