I bought one in a 5.5" single six for my daughter, it's so light I carry it fencing and fishing, one of the best trail guns.

Picked up my first .32 H&R SS a little while ago and on the first trip to the range, had a mix of different factory loads to try that came with the gun. Had some of the 85 gr Federals and after shooting two cylinder fulls, noticed that 3 of the cases had split up the side. Wasn't paying that close attention so don't know if it was the same cylinders, etc. and that was all I had. Just wondering if anybody else has experienced the same failure. Bad lot or ? Gun seems fine and don't see anything strange but will try to get up to the range again soon with more loads to try. It's a 4 5/8 version, adj sights.

Federal had some bad brass in some of the older lots of 32 mag ammo. It could be the brittle brass, and not your revolver.

That's what I was wondering. Will get some loads made up with new Starline brass and see how that works. Thanks.

Several years ago I picked up a couple of boxes of Federal ammo that were around 10 years old. Upon firing in my Ruger SSS, I had quite a few lengthwise case splits. I took the end flap from the box with the lot code and a bunch of the cases and sent them to Federal customer service. I asked them if I had a firearms problem or a ammo problem. Several weeks later they sent me 200 rounds of factory fresh ammo and gave me a story about how I must have stored the ammo in my garage where some chemical fumes got at the brass and made it brittle. What ever the case, I was ahead of the game so I shot the new ammo with no issues and everything was fine.

Got the gun yesterday though it was close as the gun was NOT as described in the listing. Had Ruger rust on the frame, the cyl pin was badly hammered, had lots of nicks under the barrel. Got most of the rust off before doing the paperwork and had a new pin at home so accepted the gun as I did get a good price on it. Shoots to point of aim and quite well with Fed factory fodder of 85 grs. I like it.

Nolongcolt, that's a sweet looking little Single Six Vaquero... congratulations, she looks to be a shooter!
I've got a Single Six 32 H&R (blue with a 6" barrel) from 1985. Other than some Grashorn elk bone grip panels, I've done nothing with it but shoot, and she's a tac driver. Gonna start working on her later this year after I finish a couple other revolver and bolt rifle projects I've got going. Too many WIP projects, needs to get them finished so I can start some new ones!

Thanks! Right now the only thing I plan to do with it is file an angled flat on the front sight to get rid of the light bounce off the rounded part. I had planned to find some ivory's for it but we'll see. Loading up some 100 XTP loads for it right now with AA9 and W231 with other powders to follow.

Triggernosis, sorry it took so long to get back, that .32 single six 5.5' w/adj. sights wieghs in at 34oz loaded and 30.5 empty. Little bugger sure shoots good and have taken several skunks with it while fencing and such. Skunks and feral cats hate that gun, kills em quick.

They are great little guns. I bought this one back in 2006 when Davidsons was clearancing them out pretty cheaply. Last year I added some Sack Petersen grips to it. I love the birdshead.

I found out by looking at other similar listings of these guns that some, like mine, were issued with smaller than normal grips. Actually about a 1/4" inch shorter than normal Single Six grips. I didnt really notice it at first but then compared it to my 50th Ann Single Six and sure enough they are smaller grips and frame. I confirmed this with Ruger as I had not been aware of it. My gun is model number 6515. You guys know about this?

Yep, I was lucky enough to run across 2 of these small grip frames for sale a couple months ago.
One is going to Single Action Service getting put on a .41 special Single Six Alan is going to build as soon as the desert bighorn grips I'm having done are completed.
Should make a nice tidy little revolver.
