For you guys who just want a quick answer the "Star" means that it was shipped with only a LR cylinder. Only happened for a short period of time. RENE has the details with dates and serial number ranges.

I shot the blazes out of this one for a dozen years or so in the early days of IHMSA metallic silhouette. After 2 trigger jobs and 3 worn out rear sights, along with a few useage scratches, I had Gordon Logan gussy it up with some polishing and bead blasting and added buffalo horn grips, a Bowen rear and T512 front sight ... thereby ruining any potential collector value. It still "drives tacks" and will never be for sale in my lifetime, and likely not during the lifetime of my daughters:

Thanks, Boge. I always bring it to the Holiday & CSA. Can't wear it out. Even Wes Dakota tried it out last year. Glad he gave it back.

I can't remember the exact year, some where around 1984-86, Ruger once again dropped the .22 Mag cylinder and marked the frame, in the same locatioan as the "star", with a "arrow" or "house" shape. There was less than 3 months production run of these guns, Model numbers were SSR-4, 5, 6, and 9. I believe the limited production run actually makes them quite scarcer than the "star" models. A very underrated and very scarce Ruger collectable! Coogs.

Sounds like the work of a marketing genius.
