Bought a 500 jrh BFr that came with a 50 AE cylinder. Hadn't given the AE much thought. But sine I have it, what are your impressions if you have one?

I like it enough that I have three Freedom arms in 50AE, there fun as hell on Florida's wild hog crop! I need to add that anything with a 1/2 inch bore is fun even my BMG!

I really like the 50AE, it works good as long as bullet weight is keep down and not pushed velocity wise, I like 325gr bullets under 23grs 2400. the cases seem to be reasonably priced and avb. I have 2 freedom arms with 50AE cylinders.
Only regret is not trying the round before now.

As long as you have never fired a full boogie 50 AE out of a Desert Eagle, Its pretty impressive. They do have to be downloded considerably to deal with bullet jump. MY problem is I bought a Desert Eagle BEFORE the BFR.

I have 2 FA's so chambered. Cases must be regularly trimmed, you must use a precisely controlled crimp, and bullet back-out can indeed be a problem with full charge loads. Speer even uses an adhesive on their bullets. I long ago settled on using 325's driven by 21 gr. 2400 and CCI 350 primers (which I found essential) for 1110 fps from a 6" barrel. Loaded thus, it's accurate, mild shooting, yet powerful enough for most things. Since you already have a cylinder, I recommend you give it a try.

I always wanted to work with one. Yes, case length and crimping are a factor but it has a lot to offer in terms of performance. If nothing else it kicked off the 0.500" trend. The 500 JRH leap-frogged it because it's much better suited for a revolver. That said, I'm glad to see the 50 AE is still around. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"
