Hi to all: I'm considering having an extra cylinder built up for a JP Sauer 357 magnum SA. I like the idea of having 357 Maximum plus performance in a medium SA frame. However, I am also conscious that these JP Sauer guns aren't made any more and they are somewhat of a collector item (and thus, might look for a regular BH 357 mag and a fetch a spare cylinder to make a 356 GNR gun).
Any thoughts? Thanks. DW41F.

Well, Sauer guns aren't really collector items. They're strong though and certainly capable of handling the GNR. If it were me I'd go with a Ruger. Parts are more common and there are a lot of smiths to chose from. I'm sure someone would build a Sauer cylinder for you though....it just may take some arm twisting. I've never worked with the 356 GNR but have built a few 357 Bain & Davis'. They're wicked fast and I haven't had any issue with case setback. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Lee: what sort of velocity does the B&D give from length like that? 158's will go just over 1,700 fps. To be honest though, Gary's 356 is a better design. Less body taper, sharper shoulder, shorter neck, etc. While I haven't had problems with my B&Ds, the GNR is even more reliable. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

You can go cheap and just a simple rechamber on a 357 Blackhawk for the 356 GNR too. The rechamber is currently $250 and dies $100. www.reedercustomguns.com/information/services.htm Buy on a month when the 356 is one of his sale cartridges and save a few bucks on the conversion and a few more on the dies. The Sauer might require a cylinder.. Send Gary a note. He is pretty good about responding and making recommendations.
