.
When one is standing and shooting their Ruger Super Blackhawk the gun recoils and the barrel rises towards the sky.
If one was hanging upside down from a tree and shot their 44, would the recoiling barrel move towards the ground or towards the sky ?
How would one adjust their point of aim at the possum in the upside down configuration ?

This hurts my head a bit, but let me take a stab. The barrel would move towards the ground. Equal and opposite forces push straight back towards the shooter, the lower position of the grip causes the rotation.
This is a testable hypothesis, but I can't test it. I'm too big to hang upside-down from mesquite trees ('bout as big as trees get down here)!
As far as adjustment goes, I'd use more of a 12 o'clock hold.

When shooting upside down the barrel recoils away from the trigger finger. Right side up recoils up. Up side down recoils down. Shooting Up side down you aim high on the right side up target because of the time the bullet spends in the barrel. How high depends on gun and caliber. I was winning steak dinners about 15 yrs ago shooting upside down with a p220 between my legs at a steel target at 40 yards when my chief saw me do it and ordered me to stop.

Hi Guys , I have been lurking for a while but when I saw this post I had to register.
I have always had a similar question , when shooting "Gangsta Style " would the gun recoil to the side or up ? Wish my first post was a cool as the one posted with the Black hawk .44 and the Rattle snake ....

Wouldnt it also depend on which side of the equator you were on? Dont ask me how I know this but "gangsta style" it recoils to the side. Recoil follows the sights.

Recoil towards the ground, or as stated above, toward the sights is the easy part.
How to hold.... not so easy. You would definitely have to hold well above (would look like below) your target when upside down, unless it was real close and real big. How much to hold under would depend on a lot of things, but consider that most sixguns are actually pointing below the target when the hammer is released. Gravity will still pull the bullet to earth, regardles of how the muzzle is oriented.

Any angular change modifies your point of impact. You have to measure this for yourself. Have fun.

Curt, Jim Taylor turns the sixgun upside down. He does not "hang" himself upside down from trees...

I think Tarzan perfected the hanging-up-side-down hold back in the 40's....it never caught on..no pun intended.

It depends if you are north or south of the equator.

I cannot do that now as I weigh too much and my toes won't hold me up.......
