So what are some favorite recipes and powders for the .480? Any type of load from light to max, lets hear it. I have some Speer 325 Gold Dots and some hard nose cast coming as well to play with. Like Lee, I may have my 8" barrel cut back to 6" which seems about right.
I put some Speer factory loads thru it yesterday, what fun! Had to change my grip style and get my support (left) hand more to the side instead of under the grip as it pounded me pretty good at first. Just shooting from about 14 yards from kneeling didnt do anything worth bragging about but still getting acquainted. I did put 4 of 5 pretty close once with a called flyer, but only had 20 rounds. Handloads coming up, dies should be here tomorrow. I do like the gun, trigger is pretty nice, about 3 pounds. Chambers are tight, very little expansion on fired cases. The rubbers fit my hand well. Thanks!

I don't load the .480, as mine is a .475, but most everybody is going to tell you H110 or 296 for full boogie stuff. My .475 likes H110 and 296 real well. AA9 is another good one.
I would say HS6 or Longshot for less than full boogie, but not pop-gun loads. I have shot some HS6 and it's pretty good in this size case.
For pop-gun level stuff, Trailboss or maybe 231.

So about like .44 mag or hot .45 Colt loads. Kinda what I was thinking.
I got some Cast Performance hard cast bullets today but cant use them. They are a couple thousands oversize and wont fit the BFR chambers when loaded. They measure over .477 inch.

For normal stuff I use H110 and Lil Gun. Unique for fun.

Really starting to like this BFR! Loaded up some H110 with Speer 325 gr Gold Dots. Shot some 4 shot groups and gave my boy one each of the 5 shots to try. He liked it. Started with 24 grs and up to 27 which is supposed to be max but didnt really feel like it and the cases and primers show no signs of pressure. Not as peppy as the Speer factory load, but 27 grs shot the best for me and was more accurate than the factory load. Have other .480 shooters exceeded 27 grs H110 with the 325 Speer?

Anybody used that stuff yet? Must be pretty slow to use 29 grs of it. I dont see it on any of my burn rate charts though dont have a new one. I used some 2400 today at 50 yards and did pretty well though the groups were all way high. Ordered a taller front sight from MR when I got home. Only 18 bucks shipped.
