So why has Ruger only chambered the Redhawk and not the Blackhawk in .480? Is the Redhawk cylinder bigger and stouter than a Blackhawk?

Only the Super Redhawk, never the Redhawk. Yes the cylinder is bigger.

Thanks for that. I wonder why Ruger never has gone for the 5-shot gun, they could then put the .480 in a Blackhawk and other rounds as well.

I've been begging them for just that for YEARS. It all comes down to whether they are convinced there will be enough sales to justify the expense. Maybe if they hear from enough of us.............

I posted something about this on the Lipsey's facebook page a while back. Lots of folks agreed and liked and posted about it.
Seems to have fallen on deaf ears. If Ruger had more competition in the affordable heavy duty single action arena, I would probably not buy them. As it is, I've been buying BFRs instead of Rugers....
I suggest that anybody that wants a .480 blackhawk, simply buy a .480/.475 BFR for a little more. It will be a nicer gun anyway.

That makes sense. Be nice if BFR's came in something besides SS though.

Here's the old facebook post: I just bumped it. 2 other guys posted the same thing recently without my thread. ctrl+f then type "480" will light all references to 480 up.

That doesn't look like a whole lot of interest.

Ruger just seems hesitant to do a 5-shot on a Blackhawk. Some cite margin of safety as the reason, but a 5-hole Bisley would be stronger than a 6-shot SRH. I'm toying with the idea of making a 480 cylinder for my 475 Linebaugh conversion: -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round a time"

Count me in for a 6.5"-7.5" ,.480 Ruger S.A.. I'd like either a Bilsey grip or the Hunter grip. The Hunter grip, as long as the SBH, but round trigger guard, yes ? Thats what I want. If I ever go the custom route, it'll be to get this'n. steve b

I had also read somewhere that Ruger had safety concerns over using the BH for a 5 shot. I guess they figure that whenever someone gets a conversion done they still sell a gun

That makes sense. Be nice if BFR's came in something besides SS though. Much cheaper and easier to build stainless guns. Blued guns require addition steps in the building process. Ruger has no plans of offering a single action .480 that I know of and I beat them up regularly about this! ;D

Ruger seems to do it both ways without a big difference in price. Is there something else required of blued guns?

I've got a FA 83 in .475LB with an auxillary fluted cylinder in .480Ruger. ;D
