You can push 250 grainers to 900 safely. Not sure about 1000 though.

In .45 Colt, sure but not constantly. The gun wont blow up, you'll just have premature wear and tear at some point.

I was wondering the same thing, since I have a BP load that delivers a 255 grainer at 1,000 f.p.s. at safe pressures. But since it recoils very hard, I wasn't sure how much wear and tear it was producing.

I'll trade you a Super Blackhawk for that weak old obsolete Colt you can load THAT as hot as you want:-)

is it possible to have 45 colt load strong enough for tn black bear in a 3rd gen colt saa Not having shot any bear with a 45 Colt I can not answer with experience, however, I did shoot a 95 lb. whitetail with a 255swc and 7.5gr Unique from a 5.5 Bisley Vaquero. Deer was quartering to me and distance was about 30 yards. The shot took it in the right shoulder point. The slug was under the hide on the left ham. Recoil was mild, though I never checked the velocity of that particular load. Should work on the typical blackie. Rooster
