I have recently replaced the front sights on my Ruger Super Blackhawk and Single Six with Hi-Viz fiber optics. I agree they ruin the traditional looks of a single action revolver. In fact the Single Six sight is fugly and it cheapens the look of a fine revolver. They however are the best thing I have found for hunting sights and my sixguns are hunting guns. The green fiber optic insert is fast and easy see under all lighting conditions, especially low light or shadows in the woods. The sight is a fiber optic rod in a blade giving a combination of glowing bead with square sides and top. I use the factory rear sight. They are inferior to a patridge or even a blackened ramp for true target work but I have found them to be superior for irregular shaped fuzzy targets in shade or low light. Has any body else used fiber optic sights and what has been your expieriance with them?

I've got them on a couple of guns. And like you Ive found them not as precise for target work but for a living moving animals I find them much easier to see. I really like them when combined with the v grove express type rear site. the top 2 guns in this photo have express rear sights with a fiber optic fronts.

I like them too...they work and that's what matters. I also tend to go with the green. I have yet to really decide between the V or square notch. I have a V on my SBH with a gold bead but I think I like the square notch with the fiber optic. Jury is still out. Nice freezer filler.

If you haven't already, try them with a Bowen rear sight on that SBH. Leftysrh on here has them on his Super Redhawks and a SBH Hunter, and they are always just fantastic to look at in all kinds of lighting conditions, with all kinds of backgrounds.
And he doesn't have trouble shooting itty bitty groups on paper with 'em either :-)

I put one on my new (to me) FN Mauser - 30.06....VERY nice. The original front sight was too low. I had to do something. The change was not "period correct" (it's a mid-50's rifle) but WOW I sure do shoot the gun well now that I can see the front sight so much better.

I don't favor the round dot in all square rear sight and front frame. I have some and use them, but I like to experiment too. I found a little bottle of glow in the dark paints at a hobby house and use just a touch of the green (which shows up best to my eye) on the back of the front blade on a couple of my hunting revolvers & a couple of MKIIs. It doesn't stand out quite as much as a hi-viz sight but is readily visible to the shooter. With some experimentation I have even been able to place it accurately enough that the bottom of the little square of paint is the hold line for 100 yard shots. Certainly not elegant by any means but very useful and everything remains square which for me makes it easier to shoot more accurately. Since hitting 45 or so, I am trying all sorts of things I never thought I would to make my sights more visible and I would never tell a man he shouldn't have HiViz sights on his sidearm!. If you like 'em, I love 'em!
