Never thought I would get an example of each, but recently added the elusive "2nd gen". They are: 1st gen 38 w.c.f. made in 1900 2nd gen 44 Spec made in 1957 3rd gen 45 Colt made in 1986 (I think,...I bought it new) Dan

That 2nd Gen .44 Special is exactly the gun I've been looking for for years. Pre-1960 with 5.5" barrel. Every one I've found has been either dinked with too much or too spendy for my purposes. I want one I can carry and shoot, so a $2800 collectible grade one is out.
Congrats!

Thanks for the comments guys.
Cubrock, I like you have been looking for that very gun to the point I had given up. I rarely see one, and they are just too much $$$ when I do. I also wanted one I can carry and shoot. I am that way with any gun I own. I went to the gun show actually looking for a new 3rd gen 44 Special. I saw this one on a table with some real cheesy white plastic grips. I tried real hard not to act like I was OVER excited but I knew I would not leave the show without that gun. I did some haggling and got it for what I thought was a pretty good price. And...it IS a real shooter. I had to do a little load tinkering to get it hitting POA but am real happy. It has not been off my hip much since I brought it home.
The grips on it now are some off of a 3rd gen gun. I am shopping for grips and can't decide just what I want for sure.

You need some ivories or stags for that gun! I agree..leaning toward ivory since I have never had a set made of the real thing. I really like elk horn with little or no bark too. Dan
