I have a gun with Turnbull color case hardening. The lacquer coating appears to have "bubbled" in several places, for lack of a better word. The underlying metal finish appears to be damaged, but I think it would look a lot better without the lacquer, since it isn't providing a clear coat of protection any more. I'm curious if anyone has stripped the lacquer from their Turnbull CCH gun, how you did it, and the results.
Thanks!

I had a similar thing happen with my Colt SAA .44-40 late 3rd gen. After cleaning a couple of times it looked like a top coat finish was sort of disintegrating off the frame, so I just helped it along with Hoppes until it was all gone. Colors arent quite as vibrant as they were but still look good.

I'd suggest e-mailing Turnbull's to the attention of Todd Burkett. They may have a recommendation for stripping in the safest way. Or they may want to look at it if there's a defect in the finish.

Thanks to both of you! The gun was finished by Turnbull under contract to another company back in the 90s, but contacting them is probably safest. I'll try that.

It's only True Oil, use their solvent on a hidden area first. Surface of metal will be soft, it's not hardened, only cosmetic according to DT
