Talked with a gentleman at a show in Louisville. I imagine that some of you might know him. He has a blue New Model Blackhawk in 50 Special by Bowen, built in the 90's.
Five shot (of course) fluted cylinder, proper sights, 4 5/8", Colt's ejector housing, locking base pin, grips by Fishpaw, Bisley hammer. It's really clean, nice and tight.
Includes a bunch of fired brass, primed brass, cast lead bullets, a few loaded rounds, RCBS dies, handwritten load information and reprints of some of Taffin's data.
Even though I've read that it's one of the best calibers to do nothing with, I wanted it nonetheless. I just wasn't sure about the cost. I left without the gun, but not without the seller's phone number.
Now back at home, I'm wishing I had taken it. Can any of you knowledgeable custom gun guys provide an estimation of a reasonable price range for such a gun?
By the way, he had another Bowen Ruger on his table. That one was in 25-20 Winchester caliber.

KAP, Missed you at the show. I had a number of fine TLAs to show you, along with an El Dorado. I'm sorry we didn't connect. I was on aisle T. He sold those two guns, by the way.

I wanted to see you as well, Steve. I had your phone number in my truck. But, I traveled there with another guy and left my truck at home. I was looking forward to see what you had brought.
I spent most of the day behind our nine tables, so I didn't really get a chance to look around as much as I wanted. Did you happen to run across a table with an old model 44 Super Blackhawk and a new model 357Max sitting together on the corner of a table? That was us.
I'm glad it was you that picked up Mr Brazille's Bowens. Sorta like keeping them in the family. Isn't that little 50 just the cutest?!
Tell me about the El Dorado.

Heh. I walked right by you guys yesterday twice and didn't see you there. I looked at the Max and some other revolvers you had there. I didn't get to walk around the show until Sunday, as we were so busy Saturday. I thought I had your number in my phone, only to find out I didn't when I went to call you Friday evening. Bummer! The 50 is really cute. It will be interesting to see how the standard grip frame works for shooting it. I really wish the .25-20 was a .32-20. We shall see how I like them. I'll post some pics when I get a breather. I took a few days off to go to the show and am now behind. I'll tell you about the El Dorado at the same time and post some pics.

The 50 Special is a great cartridge.
RCBS dies are pretty cashy, I think they are upwards to $200. If the brass is formed and trimmed already that is great. Ben Forkin gets about $2 per for prepped cases. Base gun costs plus conversions will run you upwards to 3K+ with options.
The 50 Special will shoot 400's at 1000 fps. What more does one really need?

The 50 Special will shoot 400's at 1000 fps. What more does one really need? 100 more grains of bullet weight and another 200 fps. Just kidding! ;D
