I sighted my 500 Maximum at 100 yards today just to see how it would do. With the top of the front sight held just at the bottom of the plate it did this: ] I looked through the spotting scope and couldn't believe what I saw. And yes, I stopped after 3 shots. The load was my standard 38.0 of AA1680 with a 525 WFN. I'm shocked at the accuracy potential of this cartridge. Always knew it was ultimate sledgehammer but never thought it would be a tack-driver. Boy is it proving me wrong. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Damn Lee that's some incredible shooting!
You figure out how to keep the grip from smacking your finger? I know this might sound backwards but no glove works best for me, it gives more room for my middle finger then again I'm not shooting anywhere near as hot a load out of my Maximum.

Pure inspiration! How about some details on the barrel twist, bullet alloy/hardness, size die, bullet lube, crimp?

Axe, they are Cast Performance bullets and I believe they are 22 BHN.
Great shooting, Lee!

Axe...Whit is right. I'm shooting Cast Performance sized to 0.511". Hardness is around 22. They're a great slug and extremely accurate. I initially tested 440's in the gun but will use 525's exclusively from here on (to me shooting 440's in a 500 Max is like shooting 158's in the old 357 Maximum....they just seem too light). 525's do require the heaviest roll-crimp you can put on the case mouth. At this level of recoil, bullet pull is a big problem, especially with weights over 440. Oh, and one more thing.....I don't want anyone to think I can reproduce that group at will. The gun is more than capable, but the same can't be said of the shooter. -Lee www.singleactions.com
