Nice shooting Erich! I only have one Vaquero (.32) but they sure feel good in the hand.
Being a .32...mine is a bit heavy for CCW....let alone a lot of dueling stance shooting.
Congrats!!

My stainless version arrived Monday, and I shot it Tuesday. The gun is impeccably finished, without any scratches, abrasions or dings. None. The guy(s) who put them in virtually all Rugers at the factory must have been off that day! I shot 3 loads that I had handy: a 200 gr. H&G 68 pattern SWC driven by 5 gr. 231; a 230 gr cast FN truncated cone bullet, driven by 5.5 gr 231; and 230 gr PMC hardball. I shot on paper at 11 yds., because that's where the target stand was sitting when I got there, and at a rack of 6" falling plates offhand at 20 yards, once again, because that's where they were. All groups measured between 1" and 1 3/8", and were perfectly centered for windage (hallelujiah!). All 3 loads hit to the same point, a bit of a surprise, even at those close distances, 3 1/2" below point of aim, and as I said, perfect for windage. If this was a 6" gun, and 25 yard targets, I'd start by taking .015" off the front sight, based on past experience, and probably end up with .020" off. But since this is a 3.75" barrel, I thought I'd dig out the formula and make a calculation before I started cutting. The bad news is that despite a couple hours of looking, I can't find the reference for the formula.
Can anyone help me out with the formula?

Just curious erich... can you just swap in a .45 Colt cylinder in that model?

That is a nice gun to carry. If they would do it with a Bisley hammer, it would be perfect for me.

Markbo, I have no idea - I believe that Lipsey's made some just like it but with a .45 C cylinder. kcmmichael, I really like the Super Blackhawk hammer on this one. That and the steel gripframe.

Thanks Paul, that's it. On the Fiveshot forum, Mike Hutyra also posted the same info for me via a Weigand link. I just couldn't recall the exact formula ... old codger disease, I guess. Thanks for your trouble. Ken P.S. Here it is, before sight surgery:

I had a Montado recently. It has the same hammer What do you like about the steel gripframe? I did not know they ever made an aluminum one?

erich; That is one fine looking revolver!
I shoot nothing but home cast bullets in my .45's (nothing but home cast in all of my revolvers, from .32 - .454 Casull). At any rate, I have found that when using my .45 Colt/.45 ACP Convertible SS Bisley (with the .45 ACP cylinder) that it shoots wonderfully well with a Mihec direct copy of the H&G #68 200 gr SWC. You can drive this bullet from 700 fps (target velocity) to 1000 fps (for self defense or field use). It cuts nice clean holes in targets OR meat (I have taken a number of rabbits with this combination).
The only problem it MIGHT present in a fixed sighted gun - it may or may not shoot to the sights.
Another suggestion is to use a Lyman cast 454424 ahead of 7.0 grs of Unique. In my Smith 625 this gives me 900+ fps. I use an NOE mould that casts at 250 grs with WW's+2%tin (my standard revolver alloy). This makes a dandy field load and should shoot to the sights for you.
My SS Bisley had undersize cylinder throats in both cylinders. I reamed them to .4525" with a "made for the task" Manson Reamer Kit. I understand that the new smaller framed revolvers have proper diameter throats - yours may be just fine out of the box. Incidentally, I size my bullets at .452".
Just a thought or two....
