a fair time ago, intercontinental arms [ see Lees article ] imported single actions. the later ones were ubertis. but like the virignian dragoon , the earliest ones came from switzerland. just picked this one up pin an auction, not sure it has ever been fired. 45 colt [ excuse the poor pictures- can't find my good camera ] :  and this picture shows the markings under the barrel:  it is one of the elusive hammerli single actions; is very smooth and tight lock up. got it fairly cheap at auction for $275.00 weather is improving so hope to try it out soon. been wanting to see how these Hammerlis perform |

Very nice gun. Looks just like the one I found this summer but for the screw at the top of the hammer. I've never seen one with that screw. Is that some kind of safety?

There is another one of these, not quite as nice, on Gunsamerica right now in .45 Colt. Bit pricier as well.

Bit pricier as well. cant find it. the later ones look about the same, but were made by uberti. called on one the other day, had him look the bottom of barrel and it said made in Italy. wouldnt mind finding another.  |

Bit pricier as well. found it now, but it doesnt say whether it is made by Hammerli. would have to call. ovwer on the cowboy action websites, like the SASS wire classifieds, the hammerlis bring a bunch of bucks, usually well above 500$, and sell quite quickly. but i am cheap [ sometimes ] and would rather find one cheaper. |

If you look very close you can see the underside of the barrel and just make out, Hammerli, Switzerland. 99 percent certain.

Bob the screw is a tension adjustment and lock out device for a hinkey little safety feature on the hammer. there is a knurled device on top the hammer that allows changing the angle of the firing pin so that it will not fire, and so that the hammer can be lowered to rest in a 'safe' position. the screw allows you to tension this device or to lock it in position so that it will not fire, or so that it is always ready to fire. probably put there to comply with the gun control act of 1968 point system for imports,.....sigh   |
