Hello all. New to the forum. I saw a Ruger conversion on Gunbroker.com and had to do some research to see what the heck it was. Its advertised as a 510 GNR. Now I'll admit that when the 500 JRH came out I thought it was a great idea since the 500 S&W round was too long for a standard window single action, hence the shorter round would do fine. So other than getting your initials on a cartridge, whats with the 510 GNR.? His web site states the 510 GNR will do things that the 500 Linebaugh cant?? What exactly is he referring to? Anyone know? I thought Bowen's 50 Special filled that end of the spectrum well enough and did not even carry Bowen's initials in most searches.

I posted this photo before, but here it is again. This is how you achieve the same ballistics with a shorter cased cartridge -- you load it long, and to the same basic length of the .500 Linebaugh (giving you the same case capacity). Nothing wrong with the .510 GNR, I just can't see what advantage it gives one over the parent Linebaugh case, considering that they fit in the same length cylinder.

Yes, next to a .500 Linebaugh on the right.

Yep, that doesn't make a lot of sense. If it was going to be some sort of "special" and have a smaller frame/cylinder it would make sense.

Its a fine round in its own right. Brass is readily available and it is much more better suited to intermediate or lighter loads. Its well proven in the game fields as well.

Making this whole thing way to complicated... It is a simple as what you want. 50 Special, 500WE, 500JRH, 500 GNR, 510 GNR, 500L... No wrongs, no rights.. It all comes down to what you want. Some of us want ALL OF THEM! ;D
