Over on Paco Kellys lever gun site a gent is having issues with a David Clements Marlin 1895 . Seems like there's an agreed problem that is being handled poorly. I have never read anything but well deserved praise for Dave I have a 1895 that Dave did that is slick as snot and it was my only dealing with him. Has anybody experienced issues with Mr. Clements?

No matter who they are or no matter how good their work is, there will always be detractors, and with this wonderful thing called the internet, everyone can air their laundry (dirty or clean), whether they have a legit gripe or not. That said, I have heard nothing but good stuff about Dave Clements and his work.

After being an auto technician for almost 30 years I have nothing but disdain for the general public. Too many times I have fixed things better than new only to later hear that the customer was bitching about something, usually because fixed or not they are unhappy because it cost so much. IF there is a problem, most people would rather tell 30 others what a lousey no go sob you are than call and tell you there is a problem to start with. Another thing,I have a friend that is a custom rifle maker, customers are told up front that X rifle will take Y amount of time,PERIOD. Well after the 27th phone call in 3 weeks,3 months before the previously agreed upon time, rifle builders, mechanics, gunsmiths etc tend to get a bit irritated. That said with what I know about people, the internet and David Clements reputation and ONLY 1 side of the story I would let it go in one ear and out the other

A few years of first hand experience buying guns and parts from David. Nothing but good things to say.

As for David, I've heard nothing but good things about his work. -Lee www.singleactions.com

As has already been said....take someone raising heck on an internet forum, about ANYTHING, with a very large grain of salt. As an auto mechanic, and shop owner, I'll testify that some folks cant be made happy. And they always let you know that they know more than you. My bet is Mr Clements has tried to rectify the issue....and the complainer cant be pleased. Just interwebs hot air.

Dave has been nothing short of a gentleman in my several dealings with him. If given a reasonable opportunity, I'll bet he makes it right.

Dave Clements worked on a couple Ruger sixguns for me. The modifications were perfectly executed, and timely delivered. On top of that, I found him to be a true gentleman. That's about all I can ask of a man.
I agree with Whitworth on this point. Notwithstanding how good you perform, you ain't going to please absolutely everybody. I'll venture to say that if you search hard enough, you'll find somebody that will disparage every custom gunsmith. Not saying the problems aren't real. They may indeed be. But nobody's perfect.

Dave has done about 7 guns for me. I have one in his shop now. I also have future plans for more. He has been nothing but a true gentlemen and his work is second to none in my opinion. I have worked part time in a gun shop. One thing I learned is dont take things personally because you just cant please everybody. Some people will always find something to bitch about. The one thing we dont know is how he approached Dave with the problem.

After being an auto technician for almost 30 years I have nothing but disdain for the general public. I've been a car owner for 25 years and have nothing but disdain for auto technicians . Seriously, it all depends on what side of the counter your on. If you're the 1 job out of 1000 that gets screwed up it's no consolation that your satisfaction rate is 99.9%. I don't doubt that this guy is having a problem with his gun. I'm sure Clements will get it fixed. I've been to Clements shop, met the man and had him do work for me. He seems like a contentiousness guy, that doesn't mean he can't make a mistake every now and again.

I appologise, that was a pretty harsh blanket statement on my part. Simplest thing can be said is you cant please eveyone.

He's built three guns for me, done an outstanding job and is always a pleasure to deal with.
