Greetings, I am a new forum member and I have recently gotten interested in single action shooting. My father in law recently passed away and he left us a very nice Cimmaron Arms Thunderer in .45 Long Colt with the birds head grip. After shooting this piece a few times, I have really come to like the heft and feel of a single action revolver. Up till now most of my shooting has been work related with a little bit of competition using modern day rifles and pistols of which I have plenty in my collection. I have been watching some single action shooting videos and have been poking around this site for a while, which has only led to my becoming more interested in this type of sport and collecting. Now on to my first question; After drooling over several single action colt replicas lately, my wonderful wife told me today that she would like to give me a new pistol for Christmas. I think I have my options narrowed down to either an Evil Roy Comp SA in .45 LC with the dark finish or the Rooster Shooter also in .45 LC, both of which are offered by Cimmaron Arms. I really kind of like the weathered look of the Rooster but it is my understanding that the Evil Roy has some minor custom work done to the trigger, springs, wider sights, slim grips, etc. I will primarily be using this gun for recreational shooting and competing against myself with the chances of me actually getting into professional competition being slim to none at this point in time. With these two choices in mind, which would be considered the better gun and why? Like I said above, for pure personal asthetic and nostalgic reasons, I'm leaning toward the Rooster right now but I want to make the best informed decision that I can. I'm hoping someone can explain the fine differences to me between these two guns. Thanks in advance!
Marty

Welcome Marty.
I like the "used" look of the Rooster, but in my opinion I prefer for guns to get that way from real use. I would get the gun with the new finish and shoot it so much it looks like the old gun in a few years.

Hello barakmd & welcome to the forum! I am a fairly new member here as well. The "Evil Roy" you speak of is actually made by Uberti and from what I understand it's one of the hand picked guns off the line, so to speak, and is later hand fitted and hand tuned as well. They are an overall finer piece than an average Uberti. I have one that is very similar. It's a "Smoke Wagon" which is the same Uberti gun, also hand picked by Taylor, Inc., Then they hand fit it, hand tune it and add a few "Wolf Springs". In my humble opinion, you will not be sorry going with the Evil Roy. You may also want to take a look at the Taylor Smoke Wagon. Although I have not fired it yet, I am extremely please with what I see and feel! Take a look at my "Smoke Wagon". singleactions.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=sas&action=display&thread=6717

Well, I finally made my decision. It was down to the last minute but after comparing the two guns side by side, the Evil Roy won out. I feet this piece has a much smoother action and trigger, smooth as butter. I love the look, feel and heft of this gun and can't wait to get out in the next couple of days and get some rounds down range. I also ordered a Triple K Rooster Cogburn rig for this gun and hope it will be here pretty soon. Here's an Iphone pic I took after getting home with her tonight... While I was picking this up, something else caught my eye and I couldn't resist, especially for the price. Here's another photo showing my Century Coach gun which also came home with me today along with my Thunderer and recently acquired Centaur 1860 Army. Thanks to everyone on here for the warm welcome and advice with these guns. Now I just need to get out and start attending some matches

Good choice. I have handled both guns side by side at Cabela's and the Evil Roy would be my choice.
From the Cimarron website:
"The Evil Roy version of the Cimarron Model āPā features a wide square notch rear and wide constant width front sight, slim grips hand checkered European walnut, an action tuned in the U.S. by a skilled gunsmith complete with lightened trigger and hammer springs, no creep trigger pull, and improved internals for reliability.ā
