So I researched this a couple (3?) years ago and got a really good thread going on the old site where a fellow with the username Papa shared some neat stuff he was doing to crank up the ROA by shooting hard cast bullets loaded on a stationary press.
Google finds the thread when searching "hunting deer ruger old army", but pulls up an advertisement page for phpbb.com bulletin boards instead of the thread.
Anybody happen to have access or copy that page or anything? Is Papa still around to share?
Anybody seen a used .50 ROA for sale? ;D

Papa hasn't logged in in over a month, no idea why. That addy is from the previous single actions site. I haven't checked on that in a while. Go too that site directly and search for the posts in question. If you can't find it, give me a holler. I have the old site on my computer.

Old site is gone, just an advertisement now. I found a copy-paste of part of it that had some of what I was after. Would really like the pics of how he converted the harbour freight press into a loading stand.

Subsonic, you and I think too much alike at the same time....
I have been looking at that ROA on Rugerforum and thinking it would make a good primitive weapon.
To hunt with it, I'd send the cylinder to Clements to have the chambers deepened.

Oh, and I spoke with Mr. Clements a few days ago. Despite what Axe told us to encourage us to buy that "last" .50, he's making another run. I got the $50 deposit, it's the $945 that I'm havin trouble with.

Whoa Now! That sounds like I was misleading you guys doesn't it? FWIW My post was a cut and past from David's web site.. That post must have fired up the market for the 50 ROA. Glad to hear it. I've got a stock stainless ROA that needs the cylinder sent to David for modification...

I was surprised, but I also went to the webpage and saw the same thing back then. Shame I have caviar taste and chicken of the sea budget.

No offense taken here! Personally glad to know that we stirred the sediment up well enough to get to get the 50 ROA off Dave's discontinued list. I don't feel quite the same sense of urgency I was feeling about getting a second cylinder made for my 50 ROA. Maybe more Bisley ROA hammer/trigger sets will be made too!

Subsonic,If a man can kill one with a 45 he can also with the non modified ROA. I killed my first handgun deer on the 19th with my ROA,40grains 777 and a RB. The deer was about 18 yds from my 16' tall ladder stand and it fell on the spot. It made an effort to get back up and I though " I got 6 shots, use'm!" LOL. I shot 2 more times and the doe gave the ole headshake that was that. I used the RB instead of the 220 grain conical cause it was a little more accurate and shot exactly to sights. I figured a little more accuracy was better than a little more power.I'm gonna get the conical back out and get a load that's accurate cause It will be a better load if I can hit with it. The ROA can be loaded up to like 950 fps with that 220 bullet and brother no deer shot in the chest is gonna go far after that.
