...Been considering either of these gunsmiths Redhawk conversions anyone here had any experiance with A double action in 500 Linebaugh? Barrel length etc. I currently have 500 Linebaughs in several single actions shoot them around 1100 fps/455 grn keith style bullet. I have had work done by both and find etier to be very satisfactory Thanks in advance for the Wisdom and knowledge. Nate

My 2 cents...Bowen is an artist. We are fortunate to have his work available to all of us. BUT...You'll wait for his work. Reeder will have you a gun that shoots great and is guaranteed for life... in around 4 months. I kinda like shooting better than waiting but Bowen's work is well worth any wait...tough call. I waited for a year and a half for some of Dave Clements fine work, that is tough...I go with Reeder based solely on the avg wait time.

I'm Thinking BOTH! Buy a Reeder to shoot while you order that Bowen and wait! FWIW I'm concerned that it hasn't been that long since I read where some of our builders recommended against the 475L and 500L on the RH platform because of shape of the GF and perceived recoil. Most agree that while we find the heavy barrel boss on the SRH ugly the SRH GP100 style grip and the SRH trigger are superior to the RH. Just about the time I got the hots for a DA 500L Bowen had a 500L SRH on his For Sale list for about 1/2 the cost of a new build. Personally I find the heavy kicking DAs very uncomfortable to shoot DA, something about the way working the DA trigger opens up my palm, I understand it isn't noticeable at all when something wants to bite you!

My opinion and from my experience quality and craftsmanship are worth the wait I would go with Bowen.

Bowen.
As far as recoil with the Redhawk, I have a friend with a Bowen in a 4 inch Redhawk 500 Linebaugh, complete with the factory contour barrel. It is noticibly lighter in weight than it's 44 brother. I shot 450 grain Keith's at 750 fps, recoil was light and very managable. BUT, 450 grainers full house, they were not as comfortable as in a Bisley.
What to compare it too. If you've ever shot a 500L side by side with the 475L in guns with an identical Bisley setup. The 475 "feels" a bit more grumpy, more attitude. A 500L in a 4 inch Redhawk "feels" more like the 475 Bisley than the more sedate 500. Hope you follow.
