.
Would like to run a little experiment this summer.
In 44 caliber with the rest of the bullet as identical as possible, e.g., bullet maker, lead alloy, pseudo-Keith-style, etc...
But with three different bullet base configurations...
1. Flat base per Elmer Keith's instruction 2. Bevel base per current mass production 3. Gas checked
Does anyone know of a bullet maker who makes these three bullet base configurations but with the rest of the bullet close to identical ?
Appreciate it.

Try Veral at LBT moulds. He makes all three, (however I think his BB is smaller than commercial molds). He can also cut different base configurations in the same block for an additional setup fee. www.lbtmoulds.com/Scott

The closest I got was Beartooth 250 gr 44 cal bullets. Two are SWCs. One has a flat base, one has a GC base. The only 250 gr bevel base is a 250 gr RNFP, not a SWC. What do you expect your experiment to show, highest velocity, most accurate, easiest to load, what? Flat base bullets are supposed to seal the bore at lower velocities than bevel based. Gas checks are supposed to run at higher speeds without leading and bevel based are supposed to seat easier than plain base without shaving lead off the bullet base. With quality bullets like Beartooth makes I doubt I could determine which is the most accurate. Beartooth bullets come with the gas checks already attached so there is no added labor there.

My interest is in how much accuracy difference can be quantified amongst the three bullet base styles.
Not sure that I am expecting any difference in the relative ranking of the three bullet base styles -- but would be interested in just how much the difference really is.

If you want to buy bullets and not cast them try Penn Bullets. I believe he can make what you are looking for in all 3 versions.
