96 rounds fired by 5 officers in 41 seconds. I'm not sure that should be a standard to be emulated. But more ammo is never a bad thing right?

Well, I won't comment too much on the event due to it being an all too familiar situation and the politics involved.
What I will comment on is the spray and pray techniques we see these days. It's my belief that this is why the 9mm is making a comeback in LEO's realm. Guns hold more than similar models in 40 S&W. It's laughable when someone tries to give a convincing agreement that the 9mm outperforms the 40 S&W. Clearly the spray and pray crowd skipped Physics in school.
I'd gotten raked over the coals by a gun salesman, er, I mean gunwriter when I posted the 30 Super Carry was D.O.A. But, it seems as dead as fried chicken.
The ads I saw simply pointed out the guns held two more rounds than a 9mm. Seems that's all it had to offer...

I have a LOT to say but until the facts are clearer I'll hold my thoughts.

Not all police are "highly trained" especially in the art of handgunning, but that aside...
For an "normal everyday individual" going about our business, not making contact with potentially dangerous and violent situations, a G19 is probably sufficient. Throw in a spare magazine for good measure.
If'n ya really want to step up the game carry a G20 10mm with a spare mag. If that doesn't cut the mustard you're in the wrong neighborhood.

When I train LE I am constantly amazed at the lack of concern given to shooting. There are many many times I simply want to smack some on the back of the head with their own batons. Highly trained may be a correct term, but highly skilled is not the same. One unit I give training to every year has at least 3-4 repeat officers that cannot perform adequately and yet their superiors do not seem to care. Except right then and there, in that immediate instance, but I’m sure this year when I train again there will be no advances in skill level. Every year I hear, “yeah, we really had to work with them to qualify this year”.

No way someone can tell you how much ammo you will need, if so, get a lotto number from them before they leave. Not enough ammo has got to be a horrible place to be. Comfort vs risk, need to balance.

For the OP,,, I'd ask; "How good are you, under stress & duress,, to be capable of placing a few rounds into a potential threat accurately?
Then,, carry double that amount.
And that may not be enough. Just today,, we had a USPSA match at my range. And some of y'all may recall how I have a good friend, a NCHP officer who was shot in the chest, on 7/3/23, with a .44 mag. He was quite capable & was able to respond with return gunfire. He was able to fire (6) rounds from his issue .357 Sig. Today,, he was again at my range & shooting a match. He's a "highly trained" LEO,, and he's ALSO quite skilled in the use of a firearm. He has said he fired until he knew the threat was stopped.
And even he,, along with my LEO son, and other LEO's I know will freely admit that approximately 85% of LEO's have very poor shooting skills & abilities.
Five officers,, 96 rounds,, equals 19.2 rounds per officer. Basically (1) high capacity magazine. What is NOT mentioned is how many HITS were made of the 96 fired.
When I carry a semi-auto,, (a 1911) I carry a mag in the gun, and at a minimum of (2) more mags. If I'm carrying a revolver,, I carry it loaded, and at least (2) speedloaders or moon clips.

I would just like to know where the 96 bullets went. Maybe collateral damage? Maybe they all went into the ground?? Maybe into some homes??? Maybe into some autos??? I would be curious as to where the hail of bullets went. Of course it really doesnt matter.

When I was a LEO we had many officers that were scared of the weapon going off. They would flinch and jerk in some terrifying ways. I never understood that but I have grown up with firearms all my life and most of them did not. And I wont say I dont have the occasional flinch as to put myself better than they are. I am certainly not. I just have a different mindset.

Very highly trained-at one point 250 to 500 rnds a day, thank you uncle sugar. Some people can shoot under stress, a lot cannot.Train yourself to hit, no matter the time it takes, take the time to make hits- only hits count. I am still on the sunshine side of the grass because of those lessons, and the older men that learned those lessons the hard way.

Good shooting trumps lots of ammo every time. Jim Cirilo used a .38spcl revolver to pretty good affect.
