I've a 5.5" BH New FT and the Vaquero Sheriff polished. They cover quite a range of handguns needs. Problem is I have things that better cover specific chores, sigh. A first world nation kinda problem to have. Take a moment to appreciate this please.

My stainless FT was setup to be indestructible so it wears Micarta and some minor personalization. My Bisley is set up to be pretty, but really has not been shot yet.

The one I kept got the grip frame swapped for a XR3-RED
Isn't that what they came with? Now I gotta go look at mine. No, it comes with the smaller, more cramped original XR3, which most traditionalists and purists deem to be superior.
Now, I am NOT demeaning the opinion or substance thereof of those I refer to as traditionalists and purists - it's not meant to be derogatory.
I'm much more of a blundering brute-pagan, so my preferences differ. Ignorance be damned - I have my preferences and I'll damned well exercise my prerogative to abide by them, popular or not.
The original grip is also STEEL, whereas the XR3-RED is ALUMINUM - sacrilege!
Me, I'm more about the function in MY hands, and the lighter aluminum grip provides the perfect weight distribution to ME for better, more natural handling. I also get along better with the somewhat roomier XR3-RED, but the Super Blackhawk "Dragoon" grip and the Bisley grip just have WAY too much real-estate for me to get the same grip on the thing twice. I despise BOTH for MY uses.
I'm not wiser than the majority in this, it is STRICTLY a personal reference, heresy or not.
I'm more about the pragmatic, purpose-built practicality of of Ruger SAs than historic correctness. They are rugged, reliable and one of the few things in life these days that one can comfortably stake one's life on under just about any circumstances. I just like stuff like that.

WHY do you DO this to ME??
You come up with some of the neatest things that I don't NEED and should not WANT!
I KNOW it's on purpose, because of your Charter Arms fetish. NO ONE else seems to make me want new stuff I don't NEED, but YOU.
Those are beautiful guns! I got mine way before stainless was even a gleam in someone's eye. Jeff Quinn (rest his generous soul) tipped me off to the stainless and Vaquero versions before they came out and I was too stubbornly fixed on absolute practicality and necessity to move on them.
I do wish I'd acted upon a few of those options, especially the stainless, when they were available at "working man's" prices.

Absolutely love mine. The Bisley grip frame doe not fit me, but that, Sir, is beautiful! Those "understated" grips are much more aesthetically pleasing and appropriate than some of the fanciest stuff I've seen. THOSE grips are perfect for that gun.

GREAT THREAD!
The Flat Top 44 Special is THE exemplar of modern single actions - what many of us have waited decades for.
They did make it to the production schedule after the initial run of Lipseys's guns and I have one of those, but they fell off the production schedule shortly after they made it onto the production schedule. Such a shame.
Snooze, ya lose! and I fell into a deep slumber of cognizance, meaning I had my head up my BUTT and missed the stainless and Vaquero models. My loss.
Lovely guns, guys!

It has been a great thread Jeff. As you, and most, know it's my pick for customs. Some beautiful guns pictured on here. I squeezed a customized 44 Special out of Clements along with 5-Shots in 44-40, 45 Schofield and 45 Auto Rim (5 and 6 Shot) before he retired. I hope we see these reintroduced before long. I'd love to do a couple more builds. Maybe a JRH 25-20...

NO ONE else seems to make me want new stuff I don't NEED, but YOU. O don't blame it all on me brother. Lust is spread in liberal doses from many angles round here. Pic a page, any page, and my needs can become inflamed. Warning, thread drift! But, just because we are talking 44 spl. and just because you mentioned Charter Arms. Here's a different flavor.

I agree, the fit and finish on all of mine have been top notch. I'll post pics, boring as they are, tonight. But this latest has no endshake, passes the range rod test nicely, and has uniform .431" throats! Nice! Same for that Uberti!

I can count the number of plow handles I own on one hand. I much prefer the Bisley no matter whether it's on a single six or a blackhawk. But that said it was a game changer for me when I ordered a pair of flat bottom grips for the flat top 44 (like the stainless one above). It made me appreciate that one a lot more with those flat bottom grips.

I agree with the flat bottom grips. I was always happy with the stock xr3 frame and stocks on the mid size frame and bisley on the large frame. But when I traded into a 44 special with a set of custom Holy flat bottom grips, my world changed. At least for the less than magnum loads I like in this size gun. I still choose the bisley for my 7 1/2” 44 magnum and 45 heavy 45colt loads.

A .44 Spl New Vaquero with the .44 Spl NM Blackhawk flattop I was allowed to pick up today. I have to do something about that stainless steel hammer. Belt Mtn cylinder pins seem unobtainable.
