Micro had some aftermarket sights like this years ago. Most often seen on the OM Single-Sixes before Bill started making adjustable sights for them,, ala Super Single-Six.
Yep. I made a dovetail Cutter for a man in 1991 to install that very same sight on a s6. It came in a box marked MICRO Target adjustable/ Ruger OM Single six Kit, Front and back.
Well i said i made the cutter, but more like a man named Allen Stewart at Baker Oil Tools in the tooling department did the grinding, but you know what i mean.
I had no idea how special this evening was going to be for me at that moment that i took it to him. And i would give anything to relive it one more time.
The Man i did it for was a Big name Black powder guy in Pasadena TX that i had just recently met. A Super Guy. He was good freinds with a Man named Ronnie White that refered him to me.
His father ( Eric White) moved to pasadena in the 20s to grow strawberrys. Pasadena was famous for growing strawberrys and he was a farmer from Arkansas.
Well he was about 20 years to late. But to this day we have a strawberry festival every year.
He could not find any land for sale so he took a job in a printing company as a mechanic or repairman for the machinery.
An older gentleman close to retirement that he had befreinded found out he had the bad cancer stuff and said he was going to the beach in galveston to live out his last days.
He in turn sold Mr White his pottery making stuff and he went to making pots for companys like Kmart on the side and so on as i understood.
As the late 70s turned into the 80s he had moved his operation to a place called Gardenridge Texas right north east of San Antonio and gotten so big he started his own company for retail sales and called it Gardenridge Pottery.
A second store then in Houston and so on so forth. He retired and sold his shares and they went thru adjustments but i beleive its now called At Home.
His son Ronnie started Whites concrete in pasadena and opened up a Black powder range right next to it. Black Powder only but they would let me come show off my stuff and we had a lot of fun there. Ronnie got lyme disease on an African hunt though and i dont know what happened after that.. The Man i did the Tool for, His Name was Ralph Austin. We were sitting in his little gun shop behind his house one evening. I got off of work 2 hours before my lovely brand new bride, so i was wasting some time before heading home. I noticed a lot of Pearl Harbor stuff, Calenders, Pictures, so on so forth and i asked him why he was so obsessed with 12-07-1941 and he looked at me like i was some sort of Dumbass.
He said you really dont know. I said no sir im sorry, i did not mean to offend. He said go look at the liscence plate on my chevy van, im going to go get a bottle of wine. I obliged.
OOOHHH--------MMMMYYYYYY------GOD!!!!!!!!!!!
i saw it. Purple heart- pearlharbor.
i returned to a smiling man, a large man. 6' 4" or more. i said ok old man i gotta hear the words. He Said Them.
I WAS THERE!!!!!!!!!!
I asked if i could borrow his phone, he said yes. The conversation went like this. (Hey Dolly, im at Ralphs. He was in Pearl harbor on 12-7-41, The attack.) Her response was. Ok Baby. Goodnite, wake me when you get home. Hahahahahaha.
She Understood. Its a Man thing.
I kid you not. I put down the phone and Ralph said i was on CL-8 A light cruiser named the USS Detroit and got knocked out of a bunk the morning of 12/7. He told me that he manned a machine gun in his underwear.
He showed me a Time life magazine cover that had a picture of him in 44 or 45 standing on a Japanese sub with the entire crew on deck on there knees and hands on there head looking at him standing there with a BAR.
I kid you not. WOW
Well it was 2:30 in the morning when i got home to Karmen Darlin. LOL
Man whata story he had to tell and i was just messmerised. What a great guy.
I tried not to wake my Little sweetness but she had something very special to tell me. She Handed me a little peice of plastic shaped like a square with a little plus sign in it. And i hit my Knees to give The Real Big GUY a solemn and well meant THANKS.
My first little girl was in the oven cooking and i was just ready to explode. what a great day it was. Dont think i slept a wink that morning.
Never forget it. Dam i must be getting old. Im starting to rant and tell stories like my Grandpappy did. LOL
Sorry guys, it was just a special day. Wanted to relive it . Thanks for reading it.
